Bugzilla – Bug 3658
Duplicate (Compliation) Albums Listed in Albums, New Music, Album Art
Last modified: 2011-03-16 04:39:20 UTC
Albums whose tracks contain different artists (aka: Compilation Albums are being listed multiple times in various interface screens). My library consists solely of FLAC Files. My library contains dozens of compilation albums. Album/Artist summary counts are correct. Just the interface seems cluttered with repeats Clearing/Rescanning database does nothing. Seems like a DB Query or DB Architecture problem. Can you guys do a "Select Distinct" on when listing album names?
I've been through my collection to try and work out why some compilation albums are listed many times with one or two tracks each. The common theme is pretty obvious - all the affected albums have tracks, album names or artists containing accented characters. For example: Track "J'y Suis Jamais All" from album "Amlie" by "Yann Tiersen" Track "All Is Full Of Love" from album "Bjrk - Greatest Hits" by "Bjrk" Track "Nothing Compares 2 U" from album "So Far... The Best Of Sinad O'Connor" by "Sinad O'Connor" I suspect it's the album name causing the issue because: Track "La Valse Des Montres" from album "Amlie" by "Yann Tiersen" is also affected.
I should have mentioned, I'm having this issue on 6.5 SVN revision 8239 on Windows XP SP2 with iTunes integration.
Bradley - can you use the script referenced here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=17228 To create a mirror directory of flac files with just the metadata? And then upload a zipped (or tarball) so I can analyze? Some information as to the directory layout would be useful as well. Thanks
Barry - can you please attach your iTunes XML file to this bug? Do the files on disk have accented characters? Or just the tags/metadata? Thanks
Created attachment 1310 [details] Sample iTunes XML (Zipped) The attached zip file contains my iTunes library XML which exhibits multiple duplicate Compilation albums issue with accented characters.
Hi Dan, The folders and files on disc contain accents. I'm using the "keep iTunes music folder organised" feature in iTunes so this happens automatically. Barry.
*** Bug 3708 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
So I'm guessing based on my testing that the original bug posted by Bradley regarding compilations has been fixed in 6.3.1? But there is a remaining bug, started by Barry's comments, is what you are now working on in 6.5?
Hmm but I see the filer of bug 3708 filed that bug just recently against 6.3.1. Bob, it looks like you are still seeing this problem? I assume you have tried a "Clear library and rescan everything"?
Subject: Re: Duplicate (Compliation) Albums Listed in Albums, New Music, Album Art Sure did. Even with the latest build, it is still repeating albums and some tracks. I have 930 albums, it is listing over 1030. Are you using the MusicMagic plugin? Any other plugins of note? What else can you tell me about the albums which are being duplicated? They are all compilations, like the original summary of this bug?
Yes, I am using MusicMagic Plugin.
Ah I'd rather we move to bug 3733, then, where we're discutting MusicMagic-specific duplication. :) Is anyone else subscribed to this bug still experiencing duplicated albums without the MusicMagic plugin? I'd like to hear from you because I am unable to reproduce this issue with the latest 6.3.1 build.
I've just updated to the latest 6.5 SVN trunk and my problems have been solved. Thanks.
I'm seeing this as well. I have an album that's essentially 'split' into two. Slimserver in the web interface (Browse Albums) shows: 19 Naughty III by Naughty by Nature 19 Naughty III by Naughty by Nature The first one has tracks 1-5, and the second has tracks 7-14. Track 6 seems to be missing from these lists, and searching for it yields nothing. These files have been on my drive for a long time, unchanged, and unmoved. id3info on tracks 1 and 7 (one from each set): [herbman@yourmom: /fs/media/mp3/Naughty_by_Nature/19_Naughty_III]$ id3info 01_19_Naughty_III.mp3 07_The_Only_Ones.mp3 *** Tag information for 01_19_Naughty_III.mp3 === TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)): Naughty by Nature === TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): 19 Naughty III === TIT2 (Title/songname/content description): 19 Naughty III === TRCK (Track number/Position in set): 01 === TYER (Year): 3030 === TPOS (Part of a set): 1/1 *** mp3 info MPEG1/layer III Bitrate: 160KBps Frequency: 44KHz *** Tag information for 07_The_Only_Ones.mp3 === TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)): Naughty by Nature === TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): 19 Naughty III === TIT2 (Title/songname/content description): The Only Ones === TRCK (Track number/Position in set): 07 === TYER (Year): 3030 === TPOS (Part of a set): 1/1 *** mp3 info MPEG1/layer III Bitrate: 160KBps Frequency: 44KHz They appear to be identically tagged. What other information can I provide? Any debug output? I'm not using MusicMagic, or iTunes, or any special indexing methods. Running on 6.3.1 release with MySQL 4.1.
sorry, that should be 6.3.0 release.
Mark can you please try the 6.3.1 nightly?
i'm installing this and am going to do a full rescan.. i'll let you know how i fare.
that album looks good! I have a few remaining album dupes, but a cursory inspection shows that the tags are messed on those other files. This fix DID help for the ones that were properly tagged, so thanks for that! Also, the aformentioned missing track 6 was actually a tag-only file, so I don't blame the scanner for dropping that one.
Well clearly I have a lot of work to do to make sure these duplicate issues don't occur in 6.5.
