Bugzilla – Bug 2889
Dropouts
Last modified: 2006-02-21 14:32:11 UTC
I initially opened bug 2529. After reading about the new firmware version, v29, I installed 6.2.2 nightly with the latest firmware upgrade, v29. Now all of a sudden I'm getting dropouts. This wasn't happening with 6.1.1. So uninstalled 6.2.2 nightly and reinstalled 6.1.1 and everything is back to normal. 6.2.2 with firmware version 29, produced wayyyy to many dropouts. And I never had a single problem with dropout before I upgraded and I haven't changed anything, hardware wise. Please fix, so I can attempt to come current with the latest software and firmware. Thank you
Subject: Re: New: Dropouts When you upgraded, this initiated a complete rescan of your music library. Did the rescan complete?
Interesting question, I'm not sure if it initiated a rescan. So, I'm not sure if it completed or not. I will attempt the reinstall and check to see if a rescan is done. If it's not, I will initiate one manually. I will keep you informed on my progress.
Problem still exists. The scan completed. It appears to only happen when I stream my flac files. The internet radio issue/bug that I originally reported, appears fine. I also changed the configuration setting to use the built-in flac decoder instead of using lame to decode. On a positive note, whatever I was playing before the dropout/stuttering started was sounding GREAT!!. I will revert back to 6.1.1
before you revert (thus hurting chances of getting this "fixed") you might want to contact support@slimdevices.com for a more thorough diagnosis. This has not appeared as a widespread problem with current builds, so there could be something about your setup that is related, and should be properly recorded before you give up.
my issue with my songs stuttering, i believe, has to do with the cd that I ripped. After trying other music everything is fine. I will buy that for now and close the bug issue..
no, it's definitly an issue with 6.2.2 and the new firmware. Like I said before, I have no issue with 6.1.1 While I had 6.2.2 installed, I noticed the following; When I used the network health monitoring tool, I noticed the buffer fullness would drop to what it considered to be low. This would happen in the middle of the song, not at the tail end where it would be expected. Then all of a sudden, SB2 stopped playing period. It would say it was playing but nothing would be coming from my speakers. I thought I had hit the mute button or something. Please help me migrate from 6.1.1 to 6.2.2
please contact support@slimdevices.com That is how you get help. THIS is for developers to fix bugs. Support will help you, or identify what might need to be fixed.
I'll then have to contact the support, too. I'm seeing the same problem (connection dropping in the middle of a song) with mp3 files and online radio stations (mp3). Had been happily using 6.2.2 from a few weeks back before. This is using a Trendnet TEW-431BRP, Firmware Version 1.2 Release 05
Squeezebox3 running Wireless Linksys WRT54G v1.1 Debian Ubuntu running a source install of SlimServer v6.2.2 Player Firmware Version: 29 Media Library: 200GB of FLAC files Average Stats: Control Connection : OK Streaming Connection : OK Player Signal Strength : Good, but Intermittent Drops Buffer Fullness : Low Server Response Time : OK Info: I was having problems with the 6.2.1 version: Squeezebox and server process locking up after about 10 minutes of play. So, I upgraded to 6.2.2 and then the latest firmware for the box and let a complete music library scan occur. Then I immediately got audible dropouts after about 5 minutes of playing either FLAC (from SlimServer) or MP3 streams on SqueezeNetwork. I rolled back to firmware v 28 and everything seems to be working fine (at least for the last 45 minutes). No dropouts. Now the Buffer fullness looks a lot better: < 10 : 0 : 0% < 20 : 0 : 0% < 30 : 0 : 0% < 40 : 0 : 0% < 50 : 0 : 0% < 60 : 0 : 0% < 70 : 0 : 0% < 80 : 0 : 0% < 90 : 0 : 0% < 100 : 33 :100% ################################################## >=100 : 0 : 0% max : 99.994628 min : 99.817562 avg : 99.931093
I lowered my mtu value in my router software and now all is well!!!
Marvin: I 'd like to know more about your MTU change. What setting did you change? What were the old and new values? What kind of router were you using?
Firmware 35, available in tonight's nightly should be signficantly better. Please give it a try and reopen the bug if it's still happening.
