Description Will Irace 2005-10-01 12:39:44 UTC
I think something broke somewhere between 6.1.1 and today's build (2005-10-01).

Random songs doesn't work, either from the remote control, or using the web
interface.

Random Album works, but sometimes the first song in the album is missing and
replaced by some other song.

Random Artist has the same problem: sometimes the first song is wrong.

When a random mix of any type is playing, asking for a random mix of the same
type using the web interface does nothing. If a random album is playing and I
want a different random album I have to clear the playlist first.

server settings->plugins
change the number of tracks to 10

does that help?

max, looks like this problem existed in the last version, and not just today's
patch. Any thoughts?

As soon as I can get back to server settings (see bug 2230) I'll see about
changing that parameter and report the results..

http://locahost:9000/Default/ wwill get you back to the default skin.

Sure enough, changing the parameter did the trick. Now only one of the problsm
remains:

When a random mix of any type other than "Random Songs" is playing, asking for a
random mix of the same type using the web interface does nothing. If a random
album is playing and I want a different random album I have to clear the
playlist first.

Only now do I see that the random feature places the SB into a *mode* where it
keeps replenishing the playlist, and truncating what's been played according to
the plugin preferences.

This is amazing! It's the one feature I had in my own homegrown MP3 streaming
system (abandoned years ago for SlimServer) that I really missed. Bravo!

Is there an easy way for the Web interface and/or the SqueezeBox display to
reflect that we're in this mode?
Comment 6 KDF 2005-10-01 23:03:58 UTC
the squeezebox display does actually update to show that pressing play again
will stop random mode (playback continues, but the adding of tracks stops). the
web interface could be updated since clicking the link does reload that page.
it could be an enhancement after this empty pref bug is fixed.
Comment 7 KDF 2005-10-02 00:04:01 UTC
probable fix committed at change 4508. remarking and retitle for the
enhancement portion.

The random mix web page and the random mix menu on the sb both now indicate the
current mode. On the web interface, you get "Now Playing: Random Song Mix" and
a stop link; on the SB you get "Playing Random Songs", but not currently any way
to stop it (apart from clearing or replacing your playlist).
