Description Mick 2005-09-26 14:08:24 UTC
Since the recent move to storing playlists in the database, it's impossible to
hide music from the main library, but still have it accessible by a playlist.

I deliberately keep film soundtracks outside my MP3 library, but had playlists
in my playlist folder which still allowed me to play a soundtrack on demand.

I implemented this to stop film soundtracks from being added to the a shuffled
list of tracks.

I understand this is a strange usage model, but I cannot figure out any
work-around for achieving what was previously possible using file based playlists.

The rescan code does detect that the tracks are outside the library folder, but
still adds them to the Db, so perhaps a bit field could be added to the Db to
record the fact that these tracks are available for playback by playlist only.

I have a collection of radio, and audio books which I would also like to exclude from the music scan. I only ever access them from the Browse Music Folder.

I like the idea of having a per-directory hidden file that instructs slimserver how to behave
See https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1700

Or a more simple solution: Have SS ignore all directorys prefixed with an underscore during a scan. e.g. "_mybooks"

bug 1874, bug 1700 and bug 10551 are all similar cases.

Some more uses cases:
1) I have a lot of live show archives - some of them I don't want in random play
2) Christmas music - don't want to hear those albums in July
