like, could put it on the top line when in medium text mode...

(Bell icon) NOW PLAYING (x of y)

and on the date/time screensaver as well...

just a little icon of a bell that would tell you quickly if the alarm was on or
off...

filing this under sb2 since it would apply to squeezenetwork as well as slimserver.

IS this bell symbol to indicate that there is an alarm pending (as is done
already in teh datetime mode), or that the current "now playing" is the result
of the alarm trigger?

IN 6.2 we have a bell displayed when powered off and an alarm set.  Will consider adding it when 
powered on for a future release.

Is this not now complete for 7.2 stuff?

In 7.2 The DateTime screensaver includes a bell icon if an alarm is due in the next 24 hours.  There is currently no way of displaying the alarm indicator as part of the now playing screen etc.  See also bug 8555.
