Description Julian Bashford 2005-08-11 23:30:35 UTC
Nightly Build : 11th August

I have tried the last few nightlies with Various Artists. It isn't working.
What is working is that it can now include an artist if you put the artist
under "AlbumArtist"'s tag. If you, however, have a different artist under each
track in a common album in a single directory, it lists each artist and each
single track.

I would like to know how this feature is being tested. There doesn't seem to be
a way to "mis-configure" this feature. I can only guess that it hasn't actually
been completed and enabled yet.

For example :

Artist : Different for each track
Album : Back to the 70's
Band : Blank
Album Artist : Blank
Track Name : Different for each track

This will NOT work. It will show a different artist in the artist list, even
though "Group Compilation Albums Together" is listed.

Artist : Different for each track
Album : Back to the 70's
Band : Blank
Album Artist : Various Artists
Track Name : Different for each track

This will work. It will show the album under "Various Artists". This defeats
the object of the initial feature request, as it was hoped that it would be
auto-detecting if it were a compilation - not needing you to manually change
AlbumArtist to Various Artists

Please try the 2005-08-12 build, which will be built in 1.5 hours.

This feature is being tested daily, and I have a setup exactly as you describe.

What types of files are these? MP3? WMA? FLAC?

A mix - about 10,000 MP3 and about 20,000 Lossless WMA

Guess who now has his entire life of CDs and LPs in the loft !!!

As an example, one of my wifes albums (before you ask). This shows up as
multiple artists and isn't picked up as a "Various Artists" :

Julian - using the information you gave me, and the 2005-08-14 nightly - It works fine for me:

Title: Prelude and the Sound of Music
Album Artist:	Compilations
Track Artist:	Julie Andrews
Album:	Sound of Music, The
Genre:	Soundtrack
Track: 1

Title: Overture and Preludium [Dixit Dominus]
Album Artist:	Compilations
Track Artist:	Nuns Chorus

Please make sure you have 'Group Compilation albums together" selected in Settings -> Behavior.

I have - confirmed. That's why I raised it as a bug.

Group compilations was always set to ON - but still didn't work - hence me
raising the bug. It still isn't working. Sorry.

Julian, we're going to need a couple of sample tracks to test with, Dan can't reproduce the problem with
the information as given.
