Description Julian Bashford 2005-08-11 23:23:59 UTC
11th August Nightly Build : No matter whether you select to include or exclude
the Band from the look up, it still looks it up and includes it in the artist
list.

For example, I have
Artist : Cassetteboy
Album : Mick's Tape
Band : (Each track has a different artist)
AlbumArtist : Blank

Slim Server lists each band with a track under it. I would expect this is
Include Composer, Band etc... was selected - but it is it isn't.
Comment 1 Dan Sully 2005-08-11 23:26:22 UTC
Julian - I believe I fixed this today, and will be in the 2005-08-12 build that will kick off in 1.5 hours.

Give that a try and let me know?

Thanks.
Comment 2 Julian Bashford 2005-08-12 11:06:28 UTC
This build crashes out whilst rescanning the folder. I can't get it to work at
all. Sorry.
Comment 3 KDF 2005-08-12 11:22:36 UTC
Is there anything in the Event Viewer (start->settings->control
panel->administrative tools) that gives a specific crash message?

I guess Slim Server isn't a Prince fan !

Comment 5 KDF 2005-08-12 12:21:14 UTC
ah..funky symbol version, no less :)

at least it makes it obvious which tracks are a problem. You could move those
out of the music folder temporarily if you are anxious to try and get a full
scan. If not, it shouldn't be too hard to wrap the troublesome section of code
in qw// for the aug 13 build.

Comment 6 Julian Bashford 2005-08-12 12:38:42 UTC
Have moved it - and it's still scanning - without crashing. Out of curiousity,
should it show bands whilst scanning and then remove them once the scan is
complete ? In other words - I can see Bands although it is still scanning !
Comment 7 KDF 2005-08-12 13:14:20 UTC
The various artists merge and cleanup is done post-scan, so it would seem
possible to see items during scan that could be merged out later.
Comment 8 Julian Bashford 2005-08-12 13:24:35 UTC
Band are still showing - confirmed.
Comment 9 Dan Sully 2005-08-14 16:20:09 UTC
Do you have "Show Composer, Conductor, etc' turned on under Settings -> Behavior?
Comment 10 Julian Bashford 2005-08-14 21:50:10 UTC
No ! First thing I checked.

To demonstrate band/various artists not working

This shot shows - with Group Compilations switched on -
This is a Jools Holland album with various people performing on it, so to
demonstrate, I have put all the artists in each track - as individual artists -
and you will see in the next attachment, the track information in Media Centre,
which is a reliable tagging package. You will see in the SlimServer screen grab
that each track has its own artist, so why isn't it showing as a Various Artist
compilation ?

Screen Grab to go with the zip of mp3s

This shows all the sections to prove that bands isn't working - or rather, it
is, and shouldn't !
Comment 19 Julian Bashford 2005-08-18 03:07:39 UTC
Have tried the very latest download - and it still isn't working in any way
noticable. I have tried different computers, different files, new rips, old
rips, MS Media Player and JRiver Media Centre. It simply isn't working. I would
be happy to phone up and remote you in to my PC (which is easy to do !) and
show you it not working and let you play with it online. Is that the best way
forward ?
Comment 20 Julian Bashford 2005-08-19 11:02:22 UTC
Nailed it - Dan. The system works ok with MP3 but not with my lossless WMA
files. So close ! That's why it has been hard to nail down. I am very grateful
for your work. WMA support would be fab ! Thanks.
Comment 21 Julian Bashford 2005-08-20 08:32:41 UTC
and now it totally works. Turns out I have had problems with changing tags with
my lossless WMA files. It's now my problem to sort out. Thank you for your hard
work. The changes you made are much appreciated.
