Description Jim McAtee 2011-09-05 13:40:37 UTC
I see this in all interfaces.

If I have an artist that appears on an album with a different ALBUMARTIST, and I search for or browse that artist, the artist's name appears for the album, not the ALBUMARTIST.

Here are a couple of examples:

1.

ALBUM=Duets
ALBUMARTIST=Frank Sinatra
TITLE=The Lady Is A Tramp
TRACKNUMBER=1
ARTIST=Frank Sinatra
ARTIST=Luther Vandros

If I browse Luther Vandros, this album is by 'Luther Vandros', not 'Frank Sinatra'.

2.

ALBUM=Getz/Gilberto
ALBUMARTIST=Stan Getz & João Gilberto
ARTIST=Stan Getz
ARTIST=João Gilberto

If I browse Stan Getz, this album is by 'Stan Getz', not 'Stan Getz & João Gilberto'.

Are you adding multiple ARTIST values or are you using the "split field" method (eg. "Sinatra; Vandros")?
Comment 2 Jim McAtee 2011-09-08 09:28:13 UTC
They're all FLAC files with multiple artist fields, not using a separator to split fields.

example

Here's a good visual example from SqueezePlay. This is browsing My Music > Artists > Kanye West. Kanye West appears as a guest on one track of Jamie Foxx's album 'Unpredictable'. You can see how the album artist is suppressed for the other albums, but for the Jamie Foxx album it appears as 'Kanye West'.

I experienced there is always written ONE out of the SONG Artists You was browsing Begierde, but in fact it links to the ALBUM artist.

E.g if You See Song info page from the James Taylor / Ray Charles Duett (from the Ray Charles (album artist) page, it Shows the album
GENIUS LOVES COMPANY
JAMES TAYLOR

but in fact the JAMES TAYLOR line is linked to Ray Charles. So the Same happens with VARIOUS ARTISTS albums...

It gets more complicated if You take albums with more than one album artist like the new METALLICA / LOU REED collaboration ( I tagged it LOU REED; METALLICA having defined ; as separator) and one time it's shown as Lou Reed-album, another time as Metallica-album....

Once again I'd like to say: PLEASE stop the mixture of all rôles, link Song artist to Song artist only, Album artist to album artist only and composer just to composer...

This is not a subtle bug. It's stands out like a sort thumb and causes a great deal of confusion among users, who bring it up a couple times a week in the forums. They don't understand what's going on, only that something is very wrong.
Comment 8 Michael Herger 2013-07-16 11:29:22 UTC
This is a side-effect of the fix for bug 17364. Is anybody willing and able to test a patch before I commit this?
