Bugzilla – Bug 17226
Now playing doesn't work on Touch and Controller (Squeezeplay) after a server restart.
Last modified: 2011-11-15 07:08:36 UTC
After a server restart the Touch doesn't notice I'm playing something, it shows nothing in the display but the clock. (I know it is playing..., I hear it ;-))
After a reboot of Touch & Controller now playing does work again. (probably until the next server reboot)
Maybe related? https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15431
I'm pretty sure that this relates to the order in which the Comet and Slimproto connections are established. If Comet gets in first then the server rejects all its client-related requests (subscriptions). Usually it will sort itself out if left alone (no UI actions) for a few minutes but it seems, from reports, that this is not always the case.
would you consider bug 17263 a dupe of this issue?
It may be related, but I'm unable to get the 'idle' screensaver to the 'now playing' screensaver. Shaking the controller doesn't help. The touch in my environment only controls itself. The duet controls several squeezeboxes.

Ben - let's target this version of the report, as it describes perfectly what I'm seeing too.
SBS: 7.6 onebrowser branch, fully updated to r32497 SP: Controller and Touch running 7.6 r9444 Both controller and touch are pointed at a Boom Attempted steps to reproduce: 1. Boom is idle, Controller and Touch show the "when idle" SS (Digital Clock) 2. Kill SBS 3. Restart SBS 4. Start playing something on Boom The way I read this bug, at this point the Clock is not going away. However, that is not what I see...both Controller and Touch correctly move directly into NP screensaver. I've tried several variations to the steps above and it's always behaving correctly. Am I missing something on reproducing the issue?
I need some feedback on this bug or I'm going to push it off to a later release. Here's what I need: A reliable means of reproducing the bug When the bug occurs, does it result in the Now Playing screen not working at all, or that is simply is not transitioning to the correct screensaver (that is, manually going to the home menu and selecting Now Playing still functions) If I don't hear anything by next Monday I'm retargetting this bug for 7.6.x and it will not be included in the 7.6.0 release.
Well, in that case I would notify the Logitech support desk that they can expect more requests... I don't have a reliable means of reproducing the bug, I only know it happens quite often when I'm playing music from Squeezeboxserver, install a newer nightly while playing. Playing stops (as is expected), and then resume playing when the upgrade to the latest nighly has been finished. The transitioning doesn't work, but selecting Now Playing from the home menu doesn't work either. I have to say that the Toouch is more problematic than the Controller. Sometimes the Contoller seems to be able to fix itself when the Touch doesn't.
I'm willing to reconsider this bug's target milestone if there was a means of reproducing it. I've tried dozens of times to reproduce it through server restarts, firmware upgrades, soft power on/off cycles, and for me it's always working. I'm not saying there's no bug, but that I can't find a way to reproduce it.
Really strange that the first time that I'm updating the SqueezeBoxServer to the latest nightly the 'Now Playing' screensaver fails again. The behaviour is slightly changed, however. Here's what I did: 1. Start playing a song. 2. Download and install the latest nightly. (without stopping the song first) 3. The 'Now Playing' screensaver stalls and doesn't fall back to the 'Clock' screensaver (new behaviour) 4. Start playing a song again. The 'Now Playing' screensaver doesn't change, it keeps showing the song from step 1, even when it progresses to another song.
And the same happens when installing the nighly from 09-06-2011
It happens more frequently in LMS 7.7.x

Alan - today I shut down my wlan while baby was playing some internet station. Once wifi was back it was able to pick up playback again, but the Now Playing screen was stuck, even after an hour. Popping up the context menu would show the correct information though. One more observation: I was no longer able to remotely change volume on that Radio. As if all status updates where lost.
