Description Francois 2011-02-04 13:07:55 UTC
Since the update to 7.5.3 from 7.5.1 I noticed that my classics are loosing their connection to the server every now and then. When it happens I see a solid 50% processor usage but no strange entries in the log file.

I am running SBS on a Windows Home Server and had a rock solid deployment with 7.5.1

The problem is not related to heavy streaming or internet radio, it also happens if all players (2x classic, 1x squeezepad, 1x softsqueeze) are either switched of or in standby mode.
Comment 1 Danny 2011-02-05 13:52:17 UTC
I'm having the same issue running 7.5.3 - r31792 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

My Squeezebox Boom will stall with 'Connection failed' 'Right to cancel and left to try again', but the device will not respond to any buttons (apart from holding the power button for 5 seconds).

The software on the server will take up 50% of my cpu (100% of one core) and stopping/starting it will not work. The only way to get it going again is by selecting 'end process tree' and then start it manually again.

I have the same issue running SBS 7.5.3 on Windows Home Server. It now appears that the problem is with the FAAD/FLAC transcoder. See here:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85779

The question is how this problem got introduced with 7.5.3.
Comment 9 UliMy 2011-02-27 09:57:13 UTC
The issue is known since more than 3 weeks now. I expect the guys from Logitech/Slimdevices now finally start to work on it! It is really no fun when the favourite music you are just listening to is interrupted every 2 mins!!! Please guys: take it on your agenda!!! Thanks!
Comment 10 UliMy 2011-02-27 10:00:14 UTC
BTW: My squeezebox (7.5.3 - r31792 @ Mon Jan 24 07:32:03 PST 2011) runs on an XP system (Windows XP - DE - cp1252). The issue definitely starts with the 7.5.3 update!
Comment 11 UliMy 2011-02-27 10:03:20 UTC
Issue seems to be douplicated with bug: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85742
Comment 12 Danny 2011-02-28 00:16:58 UTC
Just a headsup: I started using a nightly version of 7.5.4 (r31882) and since then have not encountered the problem again.
Comment 13 UliMy 2011-02-28 04:37:46 UTC
Thanks for the hint! Is SB 7.5.4 available for download? I would like to give it a try! Thanks!
Comment 14 UliMy 2011-02-28 08:40:54 UTC
I found the prelim versions on http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/

With version "SqueezeboxServer-7.5.4-31939.exe" same behaviour as before.

Yes, that this problem still afflicts 7.5.4 was reported by Tony on the other bug (that is really the same bug): 16874. However, that was nearly a month ago, so the current build of 7.5.4 is probably different. Too bad this is still not fixed.
Comment 16 UliMy 2011-03-03 12:31:20 UTC
With the latest "nightly" "SqueezeboxServer-7.5.4-31979.exe" the bug seems to be fixed. With squeezebox.com (31910) the bug is still there...

Bug 16898, increase firmware keepalive timeout to 50 seconds for both SBS and MySB
Comment 18 UliMy 2011-03-09 10:08:26 UTC
What does that tell me? Do I have to set something in the firmware?

Btw.: I think all this is a firmware issue and comes with FW 132 or 52 (Boom), effecting SBS and also mySB. I also recognized that my SB resets about once in a day.

Guys, please, try to solve all this asap. Meanwhile I am really pissed off...

Wait a sec, you seem to be using 7.6. This firmware issue is only in 7.5 right now, we haven't built a version of 7.6 firmware with this feature yet.

Lost connection between SBS and Squeezebox classic

I just installed SBS 32051 (FW 133) and the connection got interrupted after 10 mins playing. The attachment hopefully showes the case at the bottom.

With SBS 32020 (FW 132) it worked without any issue for hours.
Comment 23 UliMy 2011-03-10 05:06:10 UTC
I'm using "7.5.4 - r32051" definitely with FW133
Comment 24 Andy Grundman 2011-03-10 05:12:44 UTC
OK, right, I saw the 7.6 stuff earlier in the file. Well I'm very confused how you'd still be having problems with firmware 133.
Comment 25 Alan Young 2011-03-10 06:31:10 UTC
What happened to the timestamps in that log?
Comment 26 David Potts 2011-03-10 06:55:51 UTC
I'm now wondering if we're all talking about the same issue. Francois's initial
report only talks about devices losing their connection to the server. Danny's
report of 2-5-11 speaks of one CPU core going to 100% usage, the server process
becoming unavailable (hence "connection failed"), and this only being
correctable by killing the process. Danny's problem is the same as mine. Is
it the same as what Francois reported? Not if Francois's connections come back.
If Francois is only having momentary drop outs -- which is Uli's problem (from
offline talk with Uli) -- then it's not the same problem. What Danny and I are
getting aren't drop outs, they're crashes.

If this Bug (16898) is to be treated as a communication problem, then I hope
that Danny's and my problem will still be addressed. (I guess that's Bug
16874.)

I'll chime in also that I've experienced the server spin problem too - not intermittent connection issues. It appears that I've mitigated the hangs (not crashes) by changing the AAC decoding options to disabled (for flac and pcm) per recommendation I think from David Potts (?).
Comment 28 Andy Grundman 2011-03-10 07:37:41 UTC
This bug is not the 100% CPU bug. That is bug 16874.
Comment 29 UliMy 2011-03-10 11:20:49 UTC
After operating my Squeezebox now for a couple of hours under FW 133 it seems to me that the bug really has been fixed. No more lost connections neither under SBS nor under mySB, despite of the one right after the installation of FW133 this afternoon.

Thanks, Andy!
Comment 30 UliMy 2011-03-16 13:07:35 UTC
Issue is still pending! I run "Version: 7.5.4 - r32061 @ Thu Mar 10 09:33:04 PST 2011" with FW133.

System under SBS may run stable for hours. Then on other days, the connection gets lost every now and then, and ever the Squeezebox completely resets and cuts the WLAN-link. I just started running the protocol file with "(player.source)" set to INFO and "(scan.scanner)" set to DEBUG the system worked fine for 2 hours now. I am not able to reproduce the issue.

With mySB the connections drops frequently.
Comment 31 Paul Chandler 2011-05-06 13:02:17 UTC
Used SB Classic for long periods without losing connection------did reset itself to MYsb at one point but connection was strong.
