Description Chris Thomas 2010-04-13 21:56:27 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #14467 +++

This is a request to restore the ability to configure the podcast list via a local installation of the Squeezebox Server, instead of going to mysqueezebox.com, for both the Radio and the Boom. In 7.4.*, one could still configure the Boom's podcast list locally, but 7.5.0 seems to have completely removed that option (the UI for configuring the podcast plugin is still available, but the Boom will only use the mysqueezebox.com podcast list).

This forum thread has more feedback on this change:

    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73184

There seem to be 2 main concerns:
  1) the availability of podcasts should mysqueezebox.com become inaccessable
  2) the inconsistent user experience around using the Squeezebox Server to configure some player settings, and mysqueezebox.com to configure others.

I agree with this bug, and am voting for it.

Just enable the Podcast plugin on your SBS.

Please beware though that we've never had one podcast solution which worked on all interfaces. It's been broken for months/years and I still wonder why it's not been important enough to get fixed. Don't know why I ever considered my own bug 14467 fixed...

Changed the summary, importance, type, etc, to reflect the actual state of this bug, IMO. I'm about to mark bug 16063 as a duplicate, but it does have additional information that's worth reading.

In order to give IP3K users a sane experience, I really don't see any choice but to sync the lists between mysb and the local server. I would be happy to consider other options if they also had the result of making IP3K and SP players have the same podcast list!

For my own future reference, so that I don't have to read all these posts and linked bugs again, the basic problem is this: You can edit podcast lists in either a local SbS or on mysb (and you would really only want to do it from a web UI because there are URLs involved which would be madness to enter through the player UI), but the SP player only ever uses the list from mysb.com, while the IP3K player uses the list from wherever it's connected, of course.

We will plan to sync podcasts for 7.6.0. Note there is a podcast plugin in 7.5.1 but it's not enabled by default, if this helps any of you for now.

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.

So assign it already!

I have the Podcast plugin (v1.0) enabled in the server.

I have the Podcasts tab on the server settings page configured with a dozen podcasts of my choosing.

When selecting menu items to appear on a player, there are two "Podcast" items that can be added to the player menu. However, when I navigate to those menu items on the player, they have identical contents (Podcast Alley Top 50 and Podcast Alley 10 Newest).

Through the web interface, there is a Podcasts button under "My Apps" and another one under "Extras". The one under "My Apps" contains the default two items (Podcast Alley top 50 and 10 newest). The one under "Extras" contains my custom list.

I would like to be able to use my custom list using the player remote.

The players I have are a SB2 and SB3.

I've re-implemented the LMS local Podcast plugin in 7.8 to support all UIs (all players, web, smartphone apps). This implementation is only available when connecting to your own installation of LMS 7.8. There's a link to the mysb.com managed podcasts list, but no synchronization of the two (yet?).

If you decide to use LMS 7.8 with its podcast implementation, then you'll probably want to disable the mysb.com hosted podcast "app".
