Bugzilla – Bug 15808
Squeezebox 3 not sending WOL packet if previously shutdown to mySqueezeBox.com
Last modified: 2010-03-02 10:34:54 UTC
If the player is shutdown to mySqueezeBox.com and you try to connect to your local server next time the player does not send a WOL packet. This has been opened in response to the comments in Bug 14972 which is for the SB Controller, I've completed exactly the same testing.
Thank you Tim. Could you confirm SB3 fw 130 sends a WOL packet ok when you press power if it was last connected to Squeezebox Server? Thanks Felix
Yes. Testing completed: Connected to mysqueezebox.com and shutdown. Powered on and tried to connect to server, no WOL packet is sent (confirmed by wireshark). Manually powered on server and connected ok. Powered off SB3 and server, powered back on via SB3 and server woke correctly (packet sent this time, confirmed by wireshark).
Doesn't work at all for me, regardless of use of mysqueezebox.com. WinXP Pro SP3, 7.4.2 r30215, two SB3 f/w 130 (one wired via router, one wireless). 1. SB3 connected to Squeezebox Server 2. Power down SB3 3. WinXP PC drops to standby 4. Pressing power on either SB3 fails to wake server 5. Manually resuming the server connects both SB3 again I tried switching to mysqueezebox.com and that worked as expected. I never use mysqueezebox.com though, my SB3s are _always_ connected to Squeezebox Server, unless the PC has dropped to standby. Network etc settings all as they were, the only difference for me is a _complete_ uninstall of 7.3.4 and an install of 7.4.2

Colin: Did you confirm your PC is setup correctly to actually wake from a wake on lan packet. When you press the power button you should see a 'Waking up server" message on SB3s display.
Hi Felix, yes it's set to WOL from magic packet, and this worked under 7.3.x. The only thing that I've knowingly changed is upgrading to SBS 7.4.2. The only device I've got that issues magic packet is SB3, so difficult to verify. I could install something like WireShark, I guess, to verify; time's a little short for me at the moment though.
You can download an app which will send a Magic packet, I use it to wake my server for maintenance. http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-gui.aspx
Thanks Tim - still doesn't help sadly as I only have my desktop machine, no laptop! Felix - forgot to say; I do see the Waking Server... / Connecting to server... message on the SB3's screen, then after a while it gets bored trying and goes dark again! As time permits, I'll throw wireshark or similar on to verify 100% if problem is local to my install.
