Bugzilla – Bug 10695
Send WOL packet when reconnecting to SC from SN
Last modified: 2010-05-07 10:20:03 UTC
If server is in standby, and a SB is connected to SN, to reconnect to SC you need a strange mix of actions. 1) Select Connect to SqueezeCenter. 2) Wait for the screen to go blank after displaying "Connecting to SqueezeCenter" 3) Press Power, thus sending the WOL packet that wakes up the server All this could be far simpler, and more intuitive, by just sending a magic packet everytime you switch from SN to SC. AFAIK there are no ill effects in case the server is already on.

Reopening as this not an exact duplicate of bug 10191, but is related
The SqueezeNetwork webUI allows the user to "disconnect" a player from SN and reconnect to its last local SqueezeCenter server. It would be nice if the player would WOL the server in this case. If a user ONLY has player control via a web browser (i.e. no IR remote, no SBC, etc.), then having the player "auto initiate" a WOL would allow for potentially seamless control of the player from local server to SN and back again. Otherwise, there is no way to wake the local server from the web browser. True, some sort of ether-wake tool could be used. But on some hand-held platforms such a utility is unlikely to be available.

Tim: Thanks for testing. This confirms that SB3 fw 130 indeed does send out wake on lan packets when last connected to SC. Have you tried the workaround described by Andrea?

All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform. We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
