Bugzilla – Bug 14990
Configurable Option to restore '+ to add' (enhancement request)
Last modified: 2010-03-26 10:16:59 UTC
The UI changes of 7.4, namely '+ is more', make the controller inconsistent with the old IR+SB3 UI and the IR is now inconsistent between devices it may be pointed at. see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69471 and associated threads referenced therein, for more details. An option should be added within SqueezePlay (Settings/Advanced/UI) to enable configuration of the UI broadly as follows:- Default Option: '+ is more' as per 7.4.x Option 1: '+ to add' replicating controller pre-7.4 other options could be enabled to add user-defined schemas similar to additional wallpapers in 'customise controller v1.0' plug-in, if the format of the button mappings is 'editable' Furthermore an option for functionality of the IR remote numeric buttons (when pointed at a SqueezePlay device) should be provided as post 4 in http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70500 Separate Options may also be needed to configure the functionality of 'touch' actions and how these are mapped.
These already exist in the shortcuts menu of the 7.5.0 builds. Settings->advanced->beta features->shortcuts.
thanks go to Tom for getting the shortcuts stuff in to make this work. I have no idea if this will ever get beyond the beta features area, but it does work for this task.
KDF, thanks for prompt reply. process question first:- how are these changes initiated and tracked? this change doesn't show in 7.5 changelog (though shift to '+ is MORE' isn't listed in 7.4 changelog either). visibility would save raising this unnecessarily, duplicating other converstaions, etc. loaded and looked at 7.5 This is an improvement in allowing use and configuration of shortcuts. The configurability is at key level, which is more detailed than I expected (but works for me) but doesn't cover all keys:- Not being able to configure "Key GO/RIGHT" menas the accidental wiping of playlists remains and the SqueezePlay buttons can't be configured to align with SB3+IR. Having 'Key GO/RIGHT' fixed to the action PLAY duplicates the 'PLAY' key and is counter-intuitive to the IR and its use to 'drill down', e.g. for track info. I couldn't find an action option for "ADD NEXT", which is what Hold MORE was in pre-7.4. Not sure how this level of configurability could be used to enable the numeric keys to jump in searchlists, perhaps that woudl have to remain as a switch.
It's great that the IR keys can be configured through shortcuts menus. I agree with Digital Mitch though - there are some missing things (Add Next action), and a way to change right-arrow to go to song info rather than play song would make my day. Is it possible for third-party plugins/addins/Apps to add to the shortcut actions list?
I can adapt to pretty much anything, but the developers really need to work on a solution that doesn't accidentally wipe my active playlist without at least giving me some sort of warning. Perhaps making the center button "play next" instead of "play now" when a playlist is active?
Or make right-arrow go to Song Info, but with the first option in the list being "Play".
Set to 'reopened' as whilst some shortcut configuration is available in 7.5 Beta. The key item (centre button/right acting as 'play' in SqueezePlay) is not resolved. I've created a separate enhancement request for the numeric buttons to keep it separate from the main shortcuts/context menu issues. see https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15017

Perhaps making the center button "play next" > instead of "play now" when a playlist is active? I agree with this wholeheartedly. I HATE killing my playlist. Having the center button "play next" or be context menu in the SBC would make my life easier. Please Please Please? :-)

Having the > center button "play next" or be context menu in the SBC would make my life > easier. Please Please Please? :-) I disagree with comment 5 and (I think) I agree with yours. The center button is a navigation button. As such, it should not do anything other than navigate up and down menus. If it does reach the bottom of a menu (e.g., at the song level), it can automatically bring up the context menu (play, play next, add, etc.). Thus, the center button doesn't result in any action being taken. Preventing the playlist from being overwritten is a separate issue that also needs to be addressed. I have read that some folks like the current behavior. For the life of me, I can't understand why. But for the sake of argument, let's just say that behavior needs to remain. They should create a setting that controls whether the playlist is wiped or not when pressing play.
