Bugzilla – Bug 14715
Alarm Button should function when powered off
Last modified: 2011-01-08 02:43:47 UTC
If I want to set an alarm, I need to turn the power on first. It would be fantastic if the alarm button took me right to the alarm menu regardless of the powered on/powered off state of the radio, like preset buttons do.
Weldon: could you please prioritize and target this enhancement request
One customer voiced concern on the forums that if he had to turn Radio on to check that his next alarm was set properly, it would start playing music (as he has configured Radio to resume playback when it's powered on). http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73134 I suggest that another good choice would be to make the alarm button, when Radio is "off", cause Radio to show information about the next alarm that will sound on Radio -- when, what day, etc. I think this info should also (clearly!) show the current day/time, to help users spot things like timezone problems (especially MySqueezebox.com users). This should be easier to build than making the button take the user to the normal Jive alarm menus without resuming playback. I think it would be good to also show this "Next Alarm" info if Radio is on and the user presses and holds the alarm button. Both these options would help resolve another concern I have with Radio's alarms -- the Alarms menu, as of SBS 7.5.0 trunk and firmware r8265, lists the alarms in the order they were programmed. There's no clear way to get Radio to show info about the alarm that will sound (i.e. the next alarm that is active). If all alarms are disabled, the Next Alarm info screen I propose should clearly state that all alarms have been disabled. If alarms are enabled but no alarms are programmed, a different message should appear.
I think a better solution to the problem Peter describes, is to simply show the next alarm time on the main clock display as requested in 14708. Then noboby has to push any buttons to see the next alarm time. I'd still like the alarm button to take me to the alarms menu without resuming playback too.
Matt doesn't work for us any more, and the 7.4.x target is in the past. It does seem a bit odd to allow the alarm button to be active when the unit is in the "off" state, but I see the preset buttons work from "off" so apparently it doesn't upset users to have active buttons in "off". :)

If you're trying to check the alarm in the dark (because the next alarm time is not displayed - https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14708) one less (non-illuminated) button press is preferable.
