The plan has been scaled back for this feature due to time/resource constraints.  New behavior (being implemented now):

Three screen states (album art on left/text on right; album art only (large, centered); text only (left-justified).  The user can toggle between these three states by either touching the middle area of the NP screen or by pressing the "Now Playing" button on the remote.

If remote is used, text display is large.  If touch is used, text is smaller.

touching the title bar will launch the context menu.

This bug has been marked fixed in a released version of Squeezebox Server or the accompanying firmware or mysqueezebox.com release.
