On Baby the screensaver settings screens display text explaining that you can use Play to preview a screensaver. Implement something similar on Touch. Use Play on the remote and touch-hold in the touch interface to preview. As on Baby, display some text explaining this.

This feature is already in and working for 'knob' type SP devices...but not very well documented

When using the IR remote with Touch it's also working

The issue here is using the 'touch' interface you can not 'play' the SS to preview it.

r7929 has this now. Good first effort, but it's too easy to to inadvertently select a screensaver when trying to preview it. A couple things happen:

1. When you preview, a second touch will kick you out of the preview. Often, this happens immediately and then it registers another touch that selects the item in the menu.

2. The 'None' screensaver, by its nature, has no preview, so trying to preview it will always select it.

My suggestion (worth trying, anyway): Don't use a touch to break out of the previewed screensavers. Use a time period of something like 5 to 10 seconds.
