Description Chris Owens 2009-10-01 09:57:33 UTC
A couple of forum threads are reporting that after the 7.4.0 upgrade, squeezebox is not responding to the IR remote.

An additional problem for me was that as well as the IR not responding the display was blank on standby when normally I get the clock etc.
I have reverted to the previosu version for now and all works well.
(I also noticed that I was unable to access the remote section on squeezecentre/settings/player/remote..it just wouldn't load. Don't know if that is related.

Reading the forum posts, it looks like a pref file is in a bad state. Maybe a server restart would cure the error?
Comment 4 home 2009-10-02 09:00:41 UTC
I tried a server restart but it didn't make any difference.
Comment 5 Chris Owens 2009-10-02 09:40:22 UTC
Our tech support manager notes that the symptoms are the same as a firewall problem. See http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5956&p_created=1168468472

Are all users experiencing this problem running Windows?
Comment 6 Chris Owens 2009-10-02 12:12:58 UTC
I noticed a forum user reported that going to Server -> Settings -> Player -> IR, unselecting both options and hit 'Apply'.

Then, re-check both options (or just the remote you are using, if you feel like) and hit 'Apply' again.

And that fixed the problem. Does this work for anyone else? It would point to a prefs file reading/writing issue.

I'm running SC on a Mac..in reply to a previous post.
I tried to do what you suggested here Chris but the remote page wouldn't load. (I notice on one of the original forum threads that someone else has noticed this problem as well)

We need to get a Pref file from a customer having this issue. Support, can you please get one the next time a customer calls in with this issue?

or if you have an existing customer with this issue?
Comment 9 Ross Levine 2009-10-07 11:55:18 UTC
Sent a note to support team, hopefully someone can get a hold of a pref file and hopefully that will indicate the issue.

server.pref file from a user
Comment 11 Julius Dauz 2009-10-07 15:58:40 UTC
Fixed this for a user yesterday by deleting his server.pref file using the CP.
I've attached his original server.pref file.
Comment 12 James Richardson 2009-10-08 07:16:47 UTC
Michael/Felix: is there anything in the attached file that could help diagnose the issue?
Comment 13 Felix Mueller 2009-10-08 09:06:30 UTC
Michael: I looked at the prefs file and there is an entry for IR, but I cannot tell whether the path is correct or not. Could you have a look please. Thanks.
Comment 14 Michael Herger 2009-10-09 03:10:29 UTC
One of the players doesn't have any irmap defined.

Julius - do you know what kind of player "WB Squeeze" is?!? It's MAC address is either corrupted (f7:a7:5d:94:d4:65) or it's no SB.
Comment 15 Felix Mueller 2009-10-13 01:20:36 UTC
Michael: My guess would be a Softsqueeze, but maybe I am wrong.

Julius: Could you try to get this users current server.pref file so we could compare?
Comment 16 James Richardson 2009-10-15 09:16:52 UTC
Michael will take a look at this one.

Felix would like to get the 'working' pref file from the customer as well.

Dupe of bug 14496: as the IR initilazation fails, the client isn't properly initialized neither. This is leading to the blank screen.

I can reproduce this here with the 7.3.3 server.prefs from bug 14496:

$ perl slimserver.pl --debug player.display=info

That last message is repeated continuously

These are all bugs that have been marked 'fixed' or 'closed' but still have the bug_meeting keyword. They were not showing up in James's bug meeting search.

Please let me know (chris_owens@logitech.com) if these need to be brought up at the next bug meeting. In the meantime I will fix the search.
