Bugzilla – Bug 14481
No streaming audio from Baby left sleeping overnight
Last modified: 2011-01-13 07:38:57 UTC
If I turn off Baby, take it home from Mt. View at around 6 pm, and then turn it on next day at 8 am, it will not stream audio from SbS or from Miles Davis internet radio unless I power cycle Radio. Happened to me twice (two days in a row). When I turning it on in the morning, I do the following: - Press Power button momentarily - Baby powers on with Logi logo, Free Your Music, etc. - Red wireless icon, so I choose my local wireless OK - Choose local music. Fails to find work SbS, and finding local one is OK - I choose flac track (24/96) from local library. Starts playing, looks OK on Now Playing (progress indicator moving), volume set to around 50 or 60, but no audio whatsoever. Sound effects play as normal. - I go to Miles Davis channel. No audio there either. - I check all other Squeezeboxes in house (SB3, Boom). They play OK. - I press Power button momentarily to turn unit OFF, then ON. - Go to Now Playing, and press Play for Miles Davis. Screen says I must have Soundpass. - I go down 2 items on Staff Picks to station in Seattle and press Play. Plays just fine. - I go back to Miles Davis. Plays just fine. I noticed that when I hear audio, the "buffering xx%" is shown on the screen. When I don't hear audio, that message does NOT appear. This with SbS 7.4.0 production, with r7790 Baby firmware PVT2 unit battery only. On my Lenovo S10e Netbooks with XP SP2.
Issue does NOT happen if I leave the SB Radio at home overnight. I think this issue happens only if it powers on and the wi-fi icon is red.
This may be fixed with new Baby firmware, as I suspect the cause was a memory leak that was fixed in 7.4.1 firmware (tested r7837)
I have been testing 7.4.1 r7837 for a few hours, have not seen the error as reported. Starting to test r7847 now
Tried duplicating steps with battery-only Baby taken from home to work. Unable to reproduce wit 7.4.1 r7866.
Seen today on 7.4.1 r7915 firmware. PVT unit with battery was plugged in overnight and was turned off (short press of Power button). It was left displaying clock screen saver at around 11:00 pm. At around 8 am the next morning, I unplugged it, pressed Power momentarily to turn ON, navigated to My Music and played flac album. Did not hear music, but could hear sound effects. Able to fix by: 1)long press of Power button to turn OFF, 2) momentary press of Power button, and 3) play track again. I think it's the same problem. Not sure how to repro more reliably, but seems to involve leaving OFF overnight.

Mickey to try to get a log file
*** Bug 14948 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Created attachment 6283 [details] Log file from Squeezebox Radio Problem reproduced with 7.4.1 r7915 firmware. Log file is enclosed. Radio with battery only. No audio from playing various tracks and no sound effects. I think the Radio had turned itself off and no screensaver was displayed, but I'm not sure. It was left overnight with only a battery plugged in. I've noticed that whenever it happens, I do not see "Buffering xx%" message on the Now Playing screen prior to the start of the audio. Interestingly enough, the progress dot does the usual: 1) initially starts from far left and starts moving to the right, and then 2) jumps to the far left after a couple second to start moving to the right again.
Reassigning to Tom to review log, but it's probably going to someone else.
Mickey, that logfile? Did you restart Baby before pulling the logfile? I'm afraid that it does not show anything before the restart. I think you need to get the logfile before doing a restart.
The sequence to reproduce this bug does not allow me to get a log prior to the reboot. Here's what I believe happened: 1. Radio with battery only. 2. Radio turned off by pressing Power button momentarily. 3. Radio turns itself further off (hibernation mode?) after waiting awhile. 4. Power button on Radio pressed to turn it back on. Radio starts reboot sequence. 5. Radio wipes out messages log file and starts new one during reboot. 6. Pressing Play to play track results in reproducing this bug. 7. Messages log file copied from Radio. Given this, the log file will only have info since the reboot. The attached log file appears to document the sequence starting from step 4 above. Do you think the root cause of the problem is something that happens before the Radio is initially turned off? If so, I would have to get a log file each time before I turn it off and hope the next time it's turned off will reproduce the problem. Ugh, that's a real headache, since it happens infrequently. Please note that this is a Radio-only problem.
Mickey, are you still able to reproduce this?
There are many reports of Baby appearing to play but no audio stream is heard. I have seen cases where the menu sound effects are heard but the audio stream is not. However, it would be best to close this one and reopen for individual cases with specific streams or specific instances.
