When I delete my duet and controller, then delete my account, and then sign in
fresh with fw 1425/18, I can launch the "remote control" applet, but the
drop-down box to select the player is empty.

I can see my player fine in the "players" tab.

I can reproduce this 100%

Make sure your player is actually connected SN. Not easy nowadays where this isn't an option any more...
