Bugzilla – Bug 13770
Can't connect to SN/SbS library as a player
Last modified: 2011-01-14 00:31:56 UTC
Steps: Connect to the "Touch Player" Pick "My Music" home menu option Sometimes have to Pick library to connect to (I only have one). Spinny screen that is "Connecting to <library name>" comes up and after a few seconds freezes. Reboot ocurrs. Always freezes on the "spinny" screen and then reboots. Sometimes a log is sent. Mulitple versions of the firmware. Mulitple versions of 7.4 - both mainline and fab specific Windows builds. Changing to a different player connected to the SbS (an SB3 and Boom) allows the Touch to act as a controller without an issue. I've tried: 1) changing players and then back again. 2) Rebooting 3) Factory Reset rebooting 4) Power plug rebooting 5) "Hard rebooting" (holding volume up, unplug/replug, still holding volume up). This changed the version maybe fixed an upgrade rebooting issue (eventually) but didn't have any impact on this issue. 6) I created a different SN account and factory reset to there. 7) I've changed SbS library names. 8) I've shut down my local SbS and just tried using SN. 9) Wired and wireless network connection Nothing has had any impact on the issue - it won't connect to play to anything. It is not visible in SbS as a player. It always seems to show up in SN as a player. It has shown up twice at the same time in SN as a player - I only went through the factory rebooting process once and then 2 showed up in SN. I had deleted and confirmed deletion of all Touch players previous to my factory reset. The "second" one had the description for the MAC address instead of a normal address. It seems to take a different amount of time to freeze - depending upon what you've attempted the previous time. If you just go back to My Music and try again it freezes almost instantly after a couple of times. If you had been controlling another player or attempting to do some internet radio it takes several seconds longer. Diagnostics screen reports that it can see mysqueezebox.com at 67.155.107.20, Ping is OK, TCP 3483 is OK, TCP 9000 is OK. It states that it is "Not connected" to Squeezebox Server, library "Not connected", etc. It does offer and get firmware updates from the SbS server. It can see other players attached to the SbS server and control them with no problem.
New note. I just went in and attempted to manually do a firmware update from the diag. screen. This was while "connected" to the touch unit itself. It froze up and rebooted. This would previously work (for the past couple of weeks while it wouldn't play). It would also auto-prompt for an upgrade every morning, too. It didn't this morning. The freeze happens instantly when you select the begin upgrade <version> option. It just highlights the row and then nothing for a few seconds until the reboot. After it rebooted I changed to a different player, was offered the upgrade right away and it upgraded from r7321.
Doug which revision fab4 are you testing with? What router are you using? How consistently do you see the freeze on trying to update?
The freeze during update is what I reported on bug 13772, this one is about rebooting when connecting to a library or SN. The freeze on reboot is 100% so far. I have a Netgear wnr3500 router. I also have used netgrear wn802t wireless access point. From memory I believe that I have one of the older units, but I've forgotten how to determine that by reading the numbers on the bottom. M/N: x-rc4 p/n: 830-000040 pid: lz90821
Doug do you still see this? I can't reproduce it here with r7790.
Yes, 100% of the time. Just tested again this morning with r7832 installed. I also noted in a different bug that it reboots on attempting to play factory test tones as well. One thing a bit different is that I do see the Touch in the SbS players list from time to time - or at least now, anyway. I'm not sure when this changed. Another observation in case this helps diagnose: aren't clock screensavers supposed to have been turned back on now? Whenever I pick a clock screensaver it does "nothing". I had one for the "off" state and I thought that the on screen power button was broken for awhile.
Doug we need to start from scratch with this touch of yours, please post your mac address here and I'll remove it from all of our servers. We'll need you to factory reset and run through setup one more time and see if it still can't connect as a player and see if it still freezes on reboot after software update. When was the last time you factory reset?
I've been doing a factory reset every few days for quite a while now. I believe that the last time was on Saturday. I had tried removing it from SN myself in the past but obviously you can to a more complete job of that. I'll send you my mac address as soon as I get home. Currently I have the touch unplugged because I was having an issue with it not shutting off the screen. Should I have my SbS shut down when I do the factory reset?
From SbS settings info screen: Player Model: fab4 Firmware: 7.4.1-r7832 Player MAC Address: 00:04:20:22:01:99 From Diag. screen on unit: Hardware revision: 5 It is connecting to mysqueezebox.com ip address of 67 155 107 20. ping: OK tcp port 3483: OK port 9000: OK registration: registered SbS: Not connected Library name: not connected ping: not connected Current player: Squeezebox Touch Player Type: Local
Factroy reset after the e-mail informing me that the mac address had been fully removed from the server system had no impact. Still reboots whenever you attempt to play anything or do a Factory Test tone. I had my local SbS shut down prior to turning on the Touch while holding down the reset buttons so that it went directly into factory reset mode.
New hardware works!!! There were a few kinks in getting it to connect to my SbS, though. I'll document the details in the forum and if needed file different bug(s), though. Thanks!!! I asked in 13772 about return instructions for the old one. I'll leave this bug open for the hardware QA person.
