Bugzilla – Bug 1358
Accented characters are displayed wrong
Last modified: 2008-08-18 10:54:04 UTC
In the player (Squeezebox) UI every accented character gets replaced by _two_ strange characters (unicode representation or something?). This happens everywhere I look (Browse music, Now playing, Playlists). In the web UI everything looks fine.
I'm sure dan will have some questions on your setup.
Sure, ask along ... I can provide some info for free ;-) Sever runs on Windows XP Pro (German edition), reading from my iTunes (4.7.1.30, English version) xml database file. Slimserver is the 6.0.1 04/12 nightly. Accented characters displayed fine in 6.0.1 04/08 nightly. Anything else?
Can you please upload your iTunes .xml file? Which tracks in particular are having issues? Thanks.
Every track, album, artist, genre with a non ASCII-7 character (mainly German umlauts and French accented characters) in its name won't display correctly on my Squeezebox display - nowhere. I'll try uploading my xml file, but it's near 35 MB ...
If you zip the xml file, it should compress quite a lot. Thanks.
Sure, that cuts it down to less than 2 MB - guess I havn't had enough coffee this morning :-/
Created attachment 421 [details] iTunes Music Library xml file My iTunes library xml file as requested by Dan.
Sorry, didn't mean ASCII-7, but rather ASCII-8 ...
Or didn't I - I'm getting confused now, I have to dig up those old tables and make sure I know what I'm talking about ...
Is this a graphical Squeezebox or one with the character display?
Answered my own question - I was able to recreate the problem with a character display SB...and then found that Michael Herger had fixed it in the trunk with change 3011. I moved it to the 6.0.2 branch with change 3029. Should be in the branch nightly builds by tomorrow.

Thanks, Vidur! Yes, it is an "original" SB here. I'll try the 04/21 nightly and let you know if it's OK now. (Or should I wait for the 04/22 - I'm always getting confused with the time shift for Europe ...
The 04/21 didn't fix it, so I guess I'll just wait for the 04/22 to appear ...
Yes, accented characters seem to be fine now with the 04/22. Thanks to Vidur and Michael!
