Bugzilla – Bug 13116
The "Switch Music Source?" prompt is confusing when there is no current playlist...
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:24:00 UTC
The current behavior of asking the user to switch to SN (or SC) every time the change occurs is a little onerous... theres no reason to prompt them about the switch if there is no current playlist. Its just confusing and an extra step. As long as there's no playlist, and no current music playing, just switch them silently. Additionally, the playlist data itself could be evaluated and a determination could be made as to whether the switch can occur without interrupting playback. Ie, user is playing a Pandora stream (not proxied from SC). They should be able to switch to the SN-based menus without impacting their playback. This may be harder to implement, but should be an end-goal.
Great points Matt... Of course it would be even better if never had to stop the music or show the prompt at all... ;)
Long term, I hope that's the goal... but I would imagine there to be some significant re-writing to get that done. In the mean time, do you approve this idea for implementation?
Yes Matt, both these ideas make a lot of sense to me. Of coursepart of it depends on just how eay it would be to implement...
Eliminate the message when doing SN<->SC switch if source side has no known playlist and if playback is stopped.

Added CAT2 keyword, but should have noted that this one is definitely more of a "nice to have" for CAT2.
== Auto-comment from SVN commit #7370 to the jive repo by tom == == https://svn.slimdevices.com/jive?view=revision&revision=7370 == Fixed Bug:13116 Description: - only confirm server SC<->SN server switch if playback is stopped and no tracks exist in playlist (which actually is rarely the case (not tracks))
I don't think this is fixed. Here's why: *Most* circumstances when a user is listening to music, but stops or pauses the music, they will not clear the playlist. Also, under some circumstances there is actually no option to clear the playlist. (ex. listening to Pandora on mySB) Therefore, this fix will never appear... If the playlist will almost _never_ be empty, then they will still see this error-- from the user's perspective they will see it every time. I propose we also do not show this error if no music is playing. This is the behavior we need and likely is expected.
Reopened by Dan. Re-assigning to Matt Weldon for review, since the current behavior is as designed.

Tom notes that since the fix in comment 7 this is a very very rare.
