Bugzilla – Bug 12637
Artwork scan causes itunes to launch
Last modified: 2011-01-14 00:51:24 UTC
sb1 wired, 7.3.3, mac os x 10.5.7, itunes 8.2 I was having a problem with itunes relaunching itself and refusing to quit and consulted the console logs and found the scanner plugin was continually running with artwork scan error, itunes parameter error. It built up quite a log file 118mb. I checked the itunes settings in squeezcenter and changed the setting for scan times to zero and the errors stopped. I then stopped squeezecenter and was able to quit itunes. I then did a clear and rescan and I'm still getting the error in the log file, itunes has semi launched again: [09-07-01 11:22:02.4366] Slim::Plugin::iTunes::Importer::Artwork::OSX::expo rtSingleArtwork (107) Error: Error from artwork script: Error getting artwork: iTunes got an error: Parameter error. By semi launched I mean it's window has not appeared but it showing launched in the dock. There seems to be something seriously wrong here.
Steven, is there some kind of pop up error asking you for confirmation if it's okay to launch iTunes?
(In reply to comment #1) > Steven, is there some kind of pop up error asking you for confirmation if it's > okay to launch iTunes? No message. itunes bounces in the dock but no window opens. If you click the itunes icon an itunes window opens as normal. itunes cannot be permanently quit, it does quit but immediately launches again, force quitting and quickly logging out works. Stopping the squeezecenter in the preference pane allows tunes to quit also. Watching the scan progress itunes launches at the start of the itunes user-added artwork phase. Console shows the same errors as above. Could an option to skip this phase be added as I don't use the artwork section anyway?
I have also experienced this same behavior. I am currently running SqueezeCenter 7.3.3, OS X 10.5.7 and iTunes 8.2 I have experienced this in the last few versions of SqueezeCenter on bon Leopard and Tiger (10.4.11) and earlier versions of iTunes. I will add that by "semi-launched" iTunes shows up in the dock as Steven says, but it is a translucent icon. Sometimes a shutdown or restart is aborted by iTunes and not even a Force Quit solves the problem. A hard reset is all that will work for me. A way to shutoff the auto artwork rescan and run it manually may help as a workaround. Bill

It's the scanner continuously generating the errors and re-launching itunes that stop shutdowns etc. If you can wait until the scanner finishes this has the same effect. Steven
Andy, should this one be assigned to you? Anything QA can do to help?
Yeah I think QA should try and find a way to reproduce some of the failure cases where iTunes artwork export doesn't work properly.
Moving 7.4 bugs to 8.0.
Please test iTunes 9 and 7.4, is this still an issue?
Just tried it using 10.6.1, 7.4.0 r28494 and itunes 9, getting the same problem itunes launches and will not quit until the scan completes.
iTunes is supposed to launch. It is also supposed to export artwork correctly, this bug should be changed to whatever the real bug is.
(In reply to comment #10) > iTunes is supposed to launch. It is a bug.
Maybe artwork from iTunes should be optional...
