Bugzilla – Bug 12353
Beginning of audio cut off using SB digital output and Peachtree Nova
Last modified: 2012-02-27 17:30:46 UTC
When using the SB3's digital output (either coax or optical) with the Peachtree Nova's DAC, the beginning of audio tracks are cut off. It sounds like only 1/4-1/2 second but it's significant enough that it usually takes out the first beat. SB3 connected to the Nova via RCA does not have any problems. PC connected to the Nova via digital does not have any problems, which I think allows us to conclude that it's not an issue inherent in the Nova's DAC only. This leads me to suspect that it's an issue with the SB3's digital output, quite possibly unique to the interaction between the SB3 and the Nova's ESS Sabre DAC. (I don't have another DAC on hand to test with, but when I tried out a Channel Islands DAC -- a Burr-Brown chip -- last month I don't recall hearing the same issue.) I did some searching and turned up a couple of errors that sound similar: https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4662 https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351
What content are you playing that causes this?
Most of my stuff is FLAC, so I've only noticed it on that. Will hook it up later this evening to test some MP3s.
Just tested using digital coax. The problem persists with MP3s. It appears that if I stop the output and play a file, the beginning is cut off as described above. However, if I'm skipping forward from a track that's currently playing, it does not appear to show this issue. I set output level to fixed at 100% and "outputs always on" in the SC settings thinking they might affect this, but nothing seems to have changed.
