When Squeezebox Server is performing an auto-update, it should not offer the same options as with fresh install. (or if you install SC over itself.)

Instead just say, "Updating" and "Update complete," or something along those lines.

Can you give some examples?
Comment 2 Michael Herger 2009-06-15 07:23:42 UTC
This a dupe of bug 9916 - wrong wording in case of updates.

Four screens from an auto-update on WinXP

I disagree that this is a dupe. The screens presented with a Windows update are the same screens presented during a fresh install. The user is asked to select or confirm their language and an install path. Screenshots attached.

I think the 4th screen is perfect. Just show a progress bar and "we're done" type screen. But do not ask for input on install option, IMO.

Would you vote for automatic installation, no user input required?

Hehe... that's already Squeezebox Server :-). Was it downloaded automatically?
Comment 6 Dan Evans 2009-06-16 11:28:43 UTC
Screenshots were taken last Friday, I think. And yes, they were taken from an actual auto-update; no manual download.

As for how we decide to implement the update... I'd like to hear Matt Weldon's input?
Comment 7 Michael Herger 2009-06-22 06:55:22 UTC
change 12352 - don't ask question, just run the installer when launched from the tray icon. Please test tomorrow's build and let me know what you think.
Comment 8 Weldon Matt 2009-06-22 09:27:46 UTC
I agree with Daniel here. NO reason to assume the user's desired settings have changed just because there is a software update.

"Installing..." progress bar and a "done" button when complete is all the UI needed here...
Comment 9 Michael Herger 2009-06-22 10:38:39 UTC
Then I consider this done. Feel free to re-open (again...) if the current implementation still doesn't fit your plan.
