Description Mick 2009-05-19 03:06:52 UTC
While the iPod style A-Z scrolling is now very fast, it is also very hit and miss.
It requires quite a bit of scrolling to find a particular artist as you normally overshoot/undershoot a couple of times before finding the desired option.

As bug https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12083 shows, there is more then one other user who has reverted to using the file system for artist organisation to allow fast selection.

I have my music organised as follows.

C:\music\0-9\ (all artists beginning with numbers)
C:\music\A\ (all artists beginning with A)
C:\music\B\ (all artists beginning with B)
....
C:\music\Z\ (all artists beginning with Z)

This allows a quick 2 step section process, where I select a folder from A to Z and then select an artist from the list.

Can I request a "Large Library Browsing Mode" where Browse Artist,Album becomes a 2 step process.

i.e.

Browse Artist
0-9
A
B
C
...
Z

Then I select a letter and get all artists beginning with that letter.

I can now do a slow scroll through the first list and a quicker scan through the small list of artists.

Making this optional would satisfy the users who are happy with the current selection scheme.

I'm not opposed to doing something like this as a user option in Squeezecenter if we get time; I'll look into it for 7.4.

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
