Description Wadzinski Tom 2009-05-04 09:35:29 UTC
There has been internal discussions about ways to improve the NP playlist experience and also saved playlists. Bug 11939 looks at the NP playlist, this bug describes the general issues with saved playlists and offers design suggestions on improving the user experience regarding playlists:

Currently, there is no way to easily update an existing saved playlist. The only way to do it is to play a saved playlist, update the NP playlist, then select save playlist, then re-type in the same name of the saved playlist. See bug 11565 as an example of this concern.

My suggestions for improvements:

1) Add content to Saved Playlists on the fly:
Using the new context menus, add a "Add to playlist..." (or "add to saved playlist") which brings up a menu of existing playlists that you can add the track/album/ to.
1a) Once you have done step 1) once, for instance adding a song to a "My Party" playlist, add a "My Party" context menu to either (or both) the top level context menu or as the first item under "Add to playlist...". This gives most of the benefits of a dedicated "Playlist Maintenance Mode" with having to switch usage modes. Only one such "playlist" context menu would ever appear. Perhaps after a certain amount of time of no playlist changes, the "My Party" playlist context menu item would disappear.

2) NP playlist has awareness of any saved playlist that originated the current NP list:
After you play a saved playlist (in other words, replace the current NP playlist with the items from a saved playlist), let's call it "Dean's Birthday Mix", when you go into the NP playlist, an item at the bottom (or better a context menu choice) shows "Update Dean Birthday Mix", so that when you add/delete items from that NP list you can quickly save it back to the playlist that originated the current NP list. Or maybe even optionally have this done automatically.
