Bugzilla – Bug 11762
Use multiple lines of text for each element of now-playing as necessary.
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:21:56 UTC
There is sufficient screen real-estate to allow for multi-line wrapped-text to be used when an item of the now-playing information (station / album, artist, title) does not fit on a single line. This should be used in preference to scrolling wherever possible. See also bug 11761.
This is a duplicate of the Controller bug 7954 but for the Fab4 skin(s)
http://embargo.wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Now_Playing_design_spec Agreed, the new spec isn't really clear on this (sorry), but this is the intended design. When/if available, the order of displayed copy would be: [Song title] <line break> [Artist Name] - [Album Name if Available] Etc. If different or no metadata is available, obviously we need common-sense variations (podcasts, talk radio, internet radio with no song/artist info, etc). The progress bar is intended to be positioned in a fixed spot about 2/3 down the screen, regardless of length of copy, when it is "available."
Design has now changed making this suggestion impossible
I do not consider 'invalid' to be an appropriate resolution. Perhaps 'wontfix' but, as an enhancement request, I do not see how it can be invalid. The general issue is the ability to allow for more free-form use of screen real-estate for the display of available metadata without the need for scrolling.
Alan, I can change to "wontfix" if that wil make you feel better... :-) It's "invalid" now because the Now Playing screen designs on all Squeezeplay devices for 8.0 are going to contain track title, artist name and song name in a 2-line display inside the title bar. The central area of the screen is being reserved for a slew of new screen features, like fullscreen album artwork, slide shows of the artist you're currently listening too, large visualizers, album lyrics, etc. Text-wrapping as a strategy will be impossible in that design. And yes, this is a known tradeoff of this approach. (Remember the flash presentation I showed on the last day of the last onsite?)
Agree with Weldon that current design makes this enhancement impossible. I does bear pointing out that there is a solid opportunity for alternative Now Playing screens to be written by 3rd party developers. I believe Erland is already involved in doing so.
