When the network is setup with WEP during FAB4 setup you get to a page that says Choose Password Type and gives you options for WEP 64bit (10 Characters) or WEP 128-bit(26 characters)....what if a customer has a ASCII 13 character key?

If they hit the help button "?" from this page..they are lead to contact support.

What about adding a Help page that gives information on if you key is in ASCII? Or to check with your Router manufacturer to get the proper key before continuing on.

There is a good example of this in the help page from the Enter Your Password Page (when using WPA) and the help page from the Choose Network page.

I assume we're talking about screen 8 (see link)

Another bug where there was no help screen in the spec, yet we're linking to one. Did I miss something?

Please see http://embargo.wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/New_Setup_Wizard; help screens in general are supposed to be defined in the navigation flow so we can keep track of them... please email me if there are proposed or added help screens not included in the spec.

Again, I would prefer to have Dan chime in on this one before taking action, as I know we must have discussed whether to have a help screen here or not, and what it should say.

I will say this: In theory, help screens are great, but there are cases such as this one where the need for some users to have a help screen (not to mention our ability to provide useful information) might be a bit of an edge case, while at the same time we're putting this screen in front of the other 99.9 percent (?) of users who will have no idea what we're talking about. So there's a reason we don't have a "?" link on every single page of the flow. Help screens won't necessarily solve every potential problem, and can actually add to user confusion in some cases.

I can come up with decent copy depending on what gets decided, but I would prefer customer care to propose what sort of help, if any, needs to be provided here. Dan, please advise and reassign to me if needed?

Matt-- please see bug 11701 where I listed screens that lacked Help and/or access to Support. There were a handful of cases.

This I believe has created the problem now where: we have a '?' button that leads to Support information, instead of Help.

In this case, we could build from 9A as it has the ASCII text you and I developed. (We can't quite copy 9A.)

The list from bug 11701 is likely also the list of pages lacking true help. Have a look and see if we should develop Help for those pages?

Do we need this for MP?
Comment 5 Weldon Matt 2009-04-14 13:17:29 UTC
So we need to make this an "official" help screen. It's been added as "8a" in the spec.

Dan, please review for accuracy?

"WEP Encryption Help

We've detected that your network is using WEP encryption. This typically means your password will be either 10 characters long (for 64-bit encryption) or 26 characters long (for 128-bit encryption). Please select the appropriate option from the menu.

NOTE: Squeezebox does not support ASCII-formatted WEP passwords (5 or 13 characters in length). You can still connect your Squeezebox to your network, but you will need to convert the ASCII password to Hexadecimal format. You can likely find a converter tool somewhere online. Or visit www.mysqueezebox.com/support for more information."

Moving to the product SqueezePlay because this bug appears to apply to any player based on that application code. Feel free to move it back if it's specific to the original product.

Matt- Text looks great.
Comment 8 Ben Klaas 2009-08-26 07:49:26 UTC
this is an administrative shuffle on priority fields to help make better judgment on the top end of the priority list. P4->P5, P3->P4, and P2->P3.
Comment 9 James Richardson 2009-08-26 10:19:27 UTC
Weldon: Who should this be assigned to now that Dan has approved the text?
