Description Blackketter Dean 2009-04-08 07:59:31 UTC
The welcome screen, as an example of a menu with supporting text, is too jammed together vertically.

We need at least an extra 1/2 line-height of space above and below the text to open this template up.

Also, English is the only language that has the title include "to Squeezebox Touch". This is unnecessary and adds to the visual clutter and can be omitted.

If we feel we need to add the name of the product to this screen, let's do so in the text and not in the title, so all languages can benefit.
Comment 1 Richard Titmuss 2009-04-08 09:23:25 UTC
English is meant to be the final copy. The other languages are the original copy from two weeks ago. After a new round of translation then the other languages will benefit.
Comment 2 Blackketter Dean 2009-04-08 10:07:13 UTC
Then we need to revert the English "Welome To Squeezebox Touch" to "Welcome". The other languages likely won't fit and if they did, it would look bad.

We also need to add some breathing room above and below the body text.

Per this morning's call, also change "I'm ready" to "Continue."

AKAIK, the vertical spacing on this screen is the same as any other screen of this type (help screens etc) - any screen with copy + selectable options. Dean, are you suggesting the template be adjusted for all such screens?

Seconding Matt's Q. Need to know this before we fix whether we're looking for a general fix or a just-this-screen fix

I'm guessing he wants it for any use of textareas, due to bug 11631, which was resolved, but then the extra padding has gone away since the more recent changes. In that bug I didn't add bottom padding, which I found was not working...
Comment 6 ndijulio 2009-04-08 11:41:48 UTC
Is it possible to add a fixed spacing (top and bottom) of 8-12px for supporting text? Basically the window = text length height + 8px top + 8px bottom, where the text is always "centered."
Comment 7 Blackketter Dean 2009-04-08 16:46:52 UTC
Yes, I'm saying that for all supporting text screens, we need to add some breathing room above and below the copy.
Comment 8 Wadzinski Tom 2009-04-08 17:36:30 UTC
Fixed in r, however, when translations appear for the welcome page text, there will need to be additional consideration of this issue, because several of the other translations will likely not fit on the page, pushing the button off-screen.

That issue is being tracked in bug 11720.

Attaching SS of new version.
