Description Blackketter Dean 2009-03-29 21:11:56 UTC
As JJZolx pointed out here:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58329

the following keys are missing from the text keyboard:

; " ` ~ ^ * \ | [ ] { } < >

For now, let's add a shift key to the number/character keyboard that exposes these keys.

Not sure if Dean is suggesting shifting to a keyboard containing only these keys, or using the shift to only shift the two rows of punctuation keys, but I like the latter. Then it looks like you're just shifting the punctuation keys. Leave the numeric row in place when shifted.

fixed, r5030.

shift key shows more special characters. Numbers and bottom row keys appear identically on both shift and unshifted cases for numeric entry.

Using a shift key seems completely forced and out of place here. Why not use a toggle/jump button in place of shift as laid out in the initial mock-ups? Basically we would add the equivalent of a "more symbols," button.

If we are finalizing this feature we NEED to consider having small icons above the default set that cycle as you change between.

r5033 *MAJOR PROBLEM* here. Once you shift into the second special character keyboard, both the 'ABC' and 'done' keys are disabled. The 'ABC' key clicks, but doesn't switch keyboards and the 'done' key clicks and bumps right. I'm completely stuck will have to reboot or reset.
