Description Bruno Liechti 2009-03-28 14:33:55 UTC
MacOS X 10.4.11
SC 7.3.3 - 25715

Problems began with the implementation of faad.

First I got an error message 'unable to play file' when trying to playback AAC+ streams. After having manually removed bpa's AAC+ plugin the message was 'can't open file'. And now there is no error message anymore but nothing plays. Station/artist/title information are showing and time is elapsing. Example: http://stream-1.ssatr.ch/rsj/aacp

AAC files (coded with Nero, extension m4a) do not play neither. Same behaviour as AAC+ streams in Now Playing screen. See attatchment.

FLAC/MP3 files and MP3 streams are playing correctly.

On Windows XP AAC/AAC+ using faad works flawlessly.

Is it an Intel or PPC system ?

I noted this problem was reported by a user in bug 10602 comment no 70 and in emails to Mickey_Gee as a result of the entries by use Quad in this thread http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=408913#post408913.
Comment 4 Bruno Liechti 2009-03-31 08:25:08 UTC
It's a PowerPC G4.

Quad, that's me. I couldn't resist, got a nightly and wrote this bug. Any advice is appreciated. It may start with a simple step-by-step instruction of how to properly re-install SC 7.3.3 and delete all traces of logs, caches and plugins. I already did that, but who knows.

Not sure if the solution of this old bug of mine can help here. https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9638
Comment 6 Spies Steven 2009-04-06 09:02:27 UTC
This seems to be an issue with the faad binary we provide when running on PowerPC but not Intel. The binary runs but does not actually decode anything.
Comment 7 James Richardson 2009-04-06 09:29:51 UTC
Andy states that we may fall back to MOV123 for PPC only as a possible solution.

Steven to try the 'official' mac faad binary
Comment 8 Adrian Smith 2009-04-06 11:12:27 UTC
Sounds like an endian issue? - it really needs the developer to have access to a ppc mac...
Comment 9 Spies Steven 2009-04-06 17:13:11 UTC
Andy, I setup a Mac mini G4 on the network with a fresh install of Leopard. You can ssh access it at smsuser@172.19.120.71 with password slimdevices. I also turned on remote management and vnc with the same password. Let me know if you need anything else.
