Bugzilla – Bug 11454
Need access to Help from firmware update screen
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:27:06 UTC
(using r4875) After connecting to a WiFi network, SB Touch offers me a firmware update. There needs to be a Help icon at top-right where we can access diagnostics and/or Help screens. This is case the firmware update fails multiple times and the user needs a way out of the update loop.
Do we have this? DO we need new text?
I'd hesitate to throw this button in front of every single user. It is likely to cause more problems than it solves. A better solution would be to add the button to the error screen when firmware update fails. Not sure we're doing a great job moving the user to that error screen when needed...
Oh and yes we have the text, it's the same diagnostics screen that Dan proposed, that I believe shows up in other places (help screens) (or at least has been planned for this).
Dan, misread this before. In this case, is there any "help" information we can actually provide to the user? Suggested text here? This would be a help screen that launches from 12a in the setup flow... http://embargo.wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/New_Setup_Wizard
Truthfully, we could just jump to the "More Help" page here, which would provide me with what *I* need. Or... If you want a true Help page, it could say: --------------- Software Update Logitech releases periodic software updates for your Squeezebox Touch. These updates can add new features, improve performance or provide bug fixes. You should always update to the latest software. Continue > -------------- Or actually I guess your template has the customer press the Back arrow? At top-right we should have the standard "More Help" button that takes you to the page from bug 11457.
Fixed in r5036. I have NOT added the extra help text, it does not seem to offer much value over the existing text (and adds more to translate, etc). I have added the a link to the "More help" screen (from bug 11457) when the firmware update has failed.
I can't replicate the bug at the moment, so I haven't seen the screen... Richard, you made the right decision, we don't need the interim help screen here. But is the button to this screen labeled "help" or "more?" The button should ideally be labeled "Help." If this is all implemented I think the bug can be resolved. Thanks...
