Description Dan Evans 2009-03-10 17:23:44 UTC
When we display servers Fab4 can attach to, we should display servers even if they are older than 8.0 (7.4).

For older servers, we should display an error suggesting the user upgrade to the latest server software and provide the URL they should go to for this. (mySqueezebox.com/ ?)

The error message would be displayed only after you select the server name, correct?

Will this also mean that the Fab4 will never actually attempt to connect to a pre 7.4 server, as requesting in bug 11309? Can you find out the server's version number without actually connecting to it?

I _think_ we need this for MP. Right?
Comment 4 Dan Evans 2009-03-26 17:33:04 UTC
As I understand the setup process, it will do its first firmware update _before_ a user ever gets a chance to select a SC server. So can be for PLD?

Fixed in r5022.

Matt attached is a screenshot showing the copy, please review. Cheers.

Copy needs some cleanup here.

Title: "Update SqueezeCenter"

Copy: "[source name]" needs to be updated to the latest version of SqueezeCenter. For downloads and more information, please visit www.mysqueezebox.com/support.

Option: "Choose different SqueezeCenter"

Matt, I think we're using "Squeezebox software" instead of "Squeezecenter" in the documentation now, right?

Also, should we just send them straight to "mysqueezebox.com/downloads"? This isn't really a support issue.

Finally, this screen would be an end point and the user should be able to back out and choose another one, right? So maybe no choices, or just "done"?

So, to me, that would be:

Title: Update Software

SERVERNAME needs to be updated to a newer version of the Squeezebox software.

Please visit mysqueezebox.com/downloads to download latest version.

Done >

What's 'Done >' do? While on this screen if you update your SC, it automatically moves forwards.
Comment 10 Blackketter Dean 2009-04-02 14:44:59 UTC
Automatically moves forward? Cool.

I guess "Done" isn't the best choice here.

Maybe we shouldn't have a choice here and let folks go back with left arrow (or home button).

So looking at comments, we need:

Title: "Update Software"

"SERVERNAME needs to be updated to a newer version of the Squeezebox software."

"Please visit mysqueezebox.com/downloads to download latest version."

I'm fine with users using the back button here.
