Bugzilla – Bug 11013
non-functional now playing when not connected to network
Last modified: 2011-01-13 15:13:27 UTC
Connected via ethernet. Unplugged power Unplugged ethernet Plugged in power Booted to home screen Now Playing menu item there, but bumps when you try to select it.
how do you want it to work?
I thought we were suppressing NP when not connected to a server/player.
Now Playing shouldn't be a choice when we aren't connected.
I'm not sure this needs fixing as stated. If your not connected to a network then an error/correction screen should appear preventing the home menu appearing.
This isn't for set up, so much as it is for the case when you power up the unit an there's no network. A home menu will appear for the user to go and adjust their settings, etc... In this case, there is no NP screen. (i.e. if there is no server connected)

Reopened for discussion with Weldon before release. At issue is what we should be doing with the Now Playing item when the player is not connected. Initial fix was to remove it, but there have been reports of it missing and being confusing to users (whether it was missing in error or not I'm not sure, as I've not been able to reproduce)
How does the 'Now Playing' screen relate to whether or not there's a network connection? I don't get the logical connection. Just go to a blank Now Playing page.

In most cases I'd agree with Dean that we should suppress Now Playing when it's not available/is empty, but, as Jim pointed out so eloquently in another bug recently, there is likely to be confusion in the network-connectivity case if the behavior is the same as when the playlist is simply empty. If a user has no connection, and selects "Now Playing," we should present the proper network error screen instead of the blank Now Playing screen.
I'll come back to this when I take care of the more important P1 bugs on my list, but at this point I'm questioning the proposed solution as being a P1.
moving current p2 bugs to p3 to make room for moving p1.5 bugs to p2
Administrative move of 7.5 bugs. All P2, P3, P4 being downgraded one level. Will then split P1s.
Moving lower-priority bugs to next target
there are diags changes in 7.6.0 that should render this bug obsolete
