Description Raimund Hirschberg 2009-02-01 18:40:44 UTC
Sirs,

I own 3 SB-Duet players and 2 controllers for about one year. From the beginning I had problems with the controllers which lose network and player connection as well as connection to the squeezenetwork frequently, several times each day; this occurs somewhat less often (2x daily) if the controllers are left in the charging cradle. To reconnect to network/squeezenetwork I recycle the controller by switching of and on again or by removing the battery for a minute. Sometimes this helps to reconnect to the network and squeezenetwork, but not uncommonly these maneuvers are unsuccessful to bring the controller back to its normal function. An additional maneuver that sometimes but not always helps is to recycle the WLAN and cable router. In some cases, when nothing works, which happens about twice weekly, I have to do a factory reset on the controller. I have this problem from the beginning, but it had improved in November or December last year coinciding with the software upgrade to 7.3. But during the last two or three weeks the problem has become worse, again; much worse. I also use a laptop within the wireless network without issues. Here are my network settings:

* Linksys WRT300N Broadband N wireless LAN, WPA-encryption
* I usually use SqueezeNetwork, but using SqeezeCenter on my PC makes no
  difference
* Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3
* Controller software 7.3 r3476
* SB-receivers used in wireless mode

Perhaps, the problem is my WLAN router (see above). I presume you have tested many routers in house. Is there any particular brand/model that works best as per your experience?? I would be willing to exchange my wireless router.

Thank you for your kind attention.
Regards,
raimund.

Raimund, please see bug 10560. Known issues with this router, please contact Linksys support.

Thank you, Ross. I checked out bug 10560 where a similar problem with the same WLAN router (Linksys WRT300N) was discussed and I followed the solution that was proposed there. Indeed, my router was running in the 'Mixed' mode. I switched it to the G-only mode and all my problems appear to be solved. Thanks again for your help!!

Raimund.
