Description Ian Dogherty 2009-01-04 12:04:48 UTC
Hi

Following upgrading from 7.2 to 7.3.1 my Squeezecenter no longer plays m4as properly - the files appear to play but there is no sound. Also, when I load a playlist full of m4as, it only plays the first track, repeatedly. (But with no sound.) Lame is installed correctly and I have QuickTime on the Server.

Incredibly frustrating... any ideas? (I'm running on 64 bit Windows Server 2008)

Thanks

Ian

Current convert.conf for the problem computer

I've attached my convert.conf so that you can see that everything is (hopefully) set-up correctly.

Steven/Alan: Can you have a look at this one?

Ian, there was a recent change for bug 10451 that might fix the issue you are experiencing. Please try installing the latest 7.3 nightly available here http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Nightly_Builds

I am also curious what version of the hardware you are using for playback?

It seems like we would have heard about this in support if there were a very common issue. Steven to continue following up, with focus on the changes this user has made to his convert.conf.

I've installed 7.3.2 from the latest nightlies, with no effect.

I agree that you should have heard about this more - I've been surprised not to find more about it on the web. I've set the convert.conf up as advised on the slimdevices forum, so it will be interesting to see what you think.

Also, for reference, I'm using Squeezebox Duet with 3 receivers, all running the latest firmware.

I still wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm running on 64bit Windows. (Also, although I have Quicktime installed, I don't have a soundcard in the server that Squeezecentre is on. However, given that you can run Squeezecentre on a NAS, I don't see how this can be an issue.)

Let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks

Ian

Update: After installing 7.3.2 and being a bit patient, things have changed a bit. Squeezecentre will now play m4as, but takes approximately 30seconds to start each one, and whilst playing / starting the server does not respond to any other commands (both through squeezecenter controller and web interface, but also generally through the operating system).

Hope this helps

Ian

We are now planning to make a 7.3.3 release. Please review your bugs (all marked open against 7.3.3) to see if they can be fixed in the next few weeks, or if they should be retargeted for 7.4 or future.

Thanks!

After a bit of investigation, it seems that this is down to the Windows Desktop Experience feature. After installing it, m4as play silently. After removing it, everything works again.

This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.3 release version of SqueezeCenter!

If you haven't already. please download the new version from http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/download-squeezecenter.html

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
