Description RudolfJan 2008-12-24 12:21:48 UTC
This scenario happened to me several times:
I use a Squeezebox Duet to play both internet radio stations and album tracks. Normally, I turn off both the receiver and the Duet controller when not in use. It happened sometimes that the controller could not establish a connection with the squeezecenter when turned on again. Also it had troubles connecting to the receiver. I then started the squeezecenter from my PC. It seems that the squeezecenter tries to play a radio station. If I switch of this radio station directly on the squeezecenter interface, I can restart the controller and it works normally again.
It seems, that when turning off the equipment, the controller does not end the active session on the squeezecenter properly. Note that I never turn off my Linux home server.
On one occasion, I could no longer reach the server through my in-home network, but I had to go to the machine where it runs. Stopping and starting the server seems not to have any effect on the problem.

I hope you can do something about this. Let me know if you have any questions or need my help. For me it is not a very big problem, but for my wife it is, it really prevents her using the system. i guess this holds also for many other people.

Regards,

Rudolf Heijink

Can you please try the latest 7.3.x nightly download, to see if the behavior changes or not.

You can download SC 7.3.2 here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/latest/

I will try the latest version in the course of next week. It may take some time to verify if this has any efect. It's a bit difficult to reproduce the error behaviour.

Hi, James,

I did some testing today. The problem is not solved. So I will describe with some detail what I did. The bad news is that I still can't make the bug very well reproducible. After downloading the software, I managed to hang the whole system at first trial. I tried the same procedure ten times with no result. Then I tried a small variation and I hung up the server, requiring a complete reboot. So here my description goes again:

Software version: 7.3 r3856 on the Duet controller
The server reports this version info: Versie: 7.3.3 - 24731 @ Thu Jan 22 03:13:17 PST 2009

This is what I did:
Updated my Ubuntu Linux with the latest updates (Fri Jan 23th, app 10.00AM)
Set Squeezecenter package to testing in Synaptic update manager
Installed latest Squeezecenter
Reboot Linux Ubuntu server system
Duet started software update, seems to work fine.

Started receiver
Selected radio station from favorites menu on the Duet
Radio plays
Set radio to pause, using the Duet
Select Music collection, albums
Play album
Switch off receiver, using the Duet. It says it paused the album playing.
Switch off the Duet
Try to start the Duet. It can't connect again to the receiver and server.
Connect to server using a web browser (this works, server seems to behave normally)
Killed the paused album from the server.
Restart the duet
Same result
Complete reboot of my Linux server
restart duet
Connect to receiver
Everything works fine now.

Repeating the procedure above 10 times does not reveal any error.
I then switched between two radio streams, and paused them. Both are in the favourites menu.

Here you find the URLs for the two radio stations, in case you need them:
http://www.omroep.nl/radio1/live64.asx
http://switch.streamgate.nl/cgi-bin/streamswitch?streamid=48&a=.asx

Again the duet hangs. One thing has changed now, I cannot connect to the squeezecenter server any more using the browser. Same thing when I try directly from my Linux system.
I rebooted the Linux system, rebooted the Duet eand receiver. Everything works fine again.

My complete configuration:
PC running Ubuntu Linux, updated with all patches.
Album files are on a separate NAS. Using Samba this is mounted on my Linux server. I have Squeezebox Duet system connecting to this setup.

Thanks for all your efforts in so far. Don't hesitate to ask me if you ned me to do anything to help solving this problem.

Regards

Rudolf

James, we'd like to confirm that you can or cannot reproduce it, and the log you attached is of successful operation or of the bug?

If you can reproduce this, could you also comment about how serious this is to judge whether or not it needs to go into 7.3.3
Comment 9 Mickey Gee 2009-04-20 13:46:30 UTC
Reassigning to James for further investigation.
Comment 10 James Richardson 2009-04-21 10:41:45 UTC
