Enhancement Request

Ticket #081213-000295

All of the tabs that you list in your 'Accounts' section of SqueezeNetwork should be available as a top level menu item for us to "add" or hide as needed. Please return these options and don't remove them with your next upgrade.

**From the Customer**

Hi, you did it again... thanks for updating SqueezeNetwork, improvements are always appreciated.

But like last time, you dropped items from the Top Menu Level.
I have 3 SqueezeBoxes and multiple paid services. I always have my paid services as top level items to select on my various devices. Now I have to run through menus to find Sirius Internet or Live365, etc.

Michael: Wouldn't this fall under 8.0 work?

Ticket # 081212-003724
Another customer is complaining about how the new SqueezeNetwork accesses music services.

"Since your server changes, my SqueezeNetwork main menu was reset to default, and now I can't change it back. My most-used menu items are Alarm, Radioio and Live365. Now on the web interface I am unable to add any of these to the main menu. Do you know how annoying it is now to jump around Live365 streams by having to go to a sub-sub-sub-sub menu each time? Please let me add my own choices to the main menu like before"
Comment 3 Michael Herger 2008-12-16 00:17:00 UTC
this should be covered by whatever Liberace will be

The 'items' allowed on the home menu are very restrictive in SN, customers are requesting that all menu items be allowed for inclusion to the home menu.

SqueezeCenter allows modification of the player 'home' menu to a much greater extent.

See bug 10212.

The real reason for this bug is because Live365 and Shoutcast were moved to a 3rd level menu and it's a lot trickier to support adding them as top-level menu items now.
Comment 7 Larry Feign 2008-12-16 17:09:50 UTC
Whatever the reason for this issue, it needs to be fixed. The fact is that many streaming services like Live365 encourage channel surfing, with thousands to choose from. The current menu configuration on the Squeezebox has the exact opposite effect with every service except the miniscule few they allow in the main menu. This is a huge step backwards for these devices, and very much inhibits my use of them.

Note to whoever is in charge of configuring the SqueezeNetwork interface on Squeezebox and other devices: this seemingly minor issue is enough of a deal-breaker for me to consider switching to any other product that will enable me to easily access these Internet radio services without the need to claw through sub-sub-sub menus each and every time.
Comment 8 Weldon Matt 2008-12-16 20:02:59 UTC
Thanks for the feedback.

We don't consider this a minor issue; in fact the entire menu structure of the Squeezebox, and the various ways users can configure their menus, is being re-examined as part of Liberace for the very reason stated: Squeezeboxes should first and foremost make it easy and enjoyable to play music, and our menu structure as it currently stands makes that difficult.

Please be patient; this will indeed be addressed as part of our Liberace improvements.
Comment 9 Larry Feign 2008-12-16 20:08:01 UTC
What is Liberace? I've seen it mentioned a few times here, but no explanation is made.
Comment 10 Larry Feign 2008-12-23 05:38:50 UTC
When will this issue be fixed? It seems that it would be a simple matter to resolve, since in essence it's a request to revert to what was there until a few days ago. I can't emphasize how disappointing it is every day when using my two Squeezeboxes, to be unable to conveniently access RadioIO or Live365.

Come on, please fix this before the holiday!

In the meantime, can you at least add RadioIO and Live365 to the drop-down menu so that they can be added to the top-level menu on my SB3's? I mean, why is last.fm and pandora there but not RadioIO? I don't get it.

Customer's Statement -

"LaRon, thanks for your information. Yes, I'm aware now that there are bug reports on the two issues. They fixed the Live365 login problem right away. But what's taking so long to fix the other issue, of adding Live365 to the top-level menu? All anyone is asking for is to restore what was possible until just a few days ago. It should be so easy to fix."
