Description Doug Williams 2008-11-02 09:11:25 UTC
Version 7.3 r3220
SC 23767, Windows XP sp3

Steps:
0) Set the screensaver to the Now Playing screensaver
1) Navigate to the Now Playing screen
2) Place the controller in the cradle and allow the screensaver to kick in.
3) Wait for the next song to start. Note that the screensaver has the correct artwork image
4) Remove the controller from the cradle and spin the wheel. Note that the regular Now Playing screen is shown but the artwork is the placeholder artwork.

NOTE: If the controller of off the cradle during the above steps then the artwork is properly shown after approx. 1/2 second. The placeholder is shown briefly and then switches to the proper image. Also, this flash is not 100% repeatable when NOT on the cradle - sometimes it just shows the image expected.

NOTE: When it is ON the cradle, however, I've always been able to duplicate it just showing the placeholder. 5 out of 5 attempts, anyway.

NOTE: BOOM (player) screensaver is set to "Now Playing", not "Jump to Now Playing".

don't you just see the placeholder for the delay until SBC has loaded the real image from SC? When you take it out of the charger, you'll wake it up, which means it'll go back to the normal NP screen. This one uses a different image than the screensaver (slightly smaller).

I think I was this bug yesterday myself. It only appears to be a problem with remote streams, it looks like the now playing screensaver can get confused and display the placeholder artwork, even though it has loaded the artwork ok.

I was playing a SqueezeCenter local Music IP mix. When I pull the controller out of the cradle it doesn't go out of screensaver mode - you have to spin the wheel (or something else) to get it to do that. However, it seems to have mainly stopped doing it for me now. I still see a placeholder image for the smaller one for a second or so but then it flips over to the real image. Strange that it was so consistent yesterday morning but not today. Not sure what to make of this now.

Doug: it could have been server lag? Was SC rescanning the library? or did you have other network traffic issues that may have caused that.
Comment 5 Doug Williams 2008-11-03 12:54:13 UTC
No, there was nothing special going on with the server. No scanning and just playing to one boom. I waited for over a minute for it to change and it never did. Of course, since it started working OK it is really odd. One thing that is different: When it wasn't refreshing I had SqueezePlay running on a laptop box (desktop skin, now playing screensaver). When it was working I had shut the laptop down. Don't know how that could be related - just thought of it now so I haven't had a chance to test this scenario out - I will tonight.

QA to investigate with SqueezePlay

Doug: can you also try to reproduce with the same scenario you described in comment #5
Comment 7 Doug Williams 2008-11-05 10:14:55 UTC
Yes, I didn't get a chance to do it last night, sorry. Election line and my wife's birthday got a bit in the way... Yes, I know my priorities are all out of wack. :)
Comment 8 Doug Williams 2008-11-06 07:58:42 UTC
Well, I couldn't duplicate it anymore with any combination of factors that I could think of so I guess that it is a ghost.
