Bugzilla – Bug 9879
Remote network functionality (with SSH tunnel) doesn't appear to work, manually entered IP address doesn't work
Last modified: 2010-12-16 08:11:33 UTC
Unlike SoftSqueeze, SqueezePlay doesn't work with remote network connections - at least through ssh redirection, the recommended way of doing this securely. From comments in the forums it is attempting to unconditionally use udp to find the music server. Manually entering the IP address doesn't seem to accomplish anything. It still doesn't find the server. This may also be a problem with multiple subnetwork households, but I can't confirm that.
Tom, would this be yours or Ben's?
Now that SoftSqueeze has been officially deprecated I think it is time to get SqueezePlay into production -and ready for remote listening.
Are there any plans to remove SqueezePlay's dependency on UDP 3483 being available? I too am using ssh to access SC remotely, and SqueezePlay won't work.
this is an administrative shuffle on priority fields to help make better judgment on the top end of the priority list. P4->P5, P3->P4, and P2->P3.
Any word on the Target Milestone for this now that 7.4 is out?
Remote network functionality is fixed in 7.4. Please try adding a server via ip Settings->advanced->network->Remote Libraries.
Perhaps I'm missing something here. I'm outside my LAN. I establish an SSH tunnel to my server running SBS. I can access SBS from a web browser at http://localhost:9000 or http://127.0.0.1:9000. I open SqueezePlay. I select English, then Continue. I'm now at Libraries. It's blank, and the only option is to go back. OK, so now I run SqueezePlay from inside my LAN. Everything works fine; it connects to SBS. So I set up the SSH tunnel, so that I can access SBS from a web browser at http://localhost:9000 or http://127.0.0.1:9000. I go to Settings -> Advanced -> Networking -> Remote Libraries. I select "Add New Library" and enter 127.0.0.1, and click done. Nothing happens at all; screen remains the same. I try the IP address of the local machine; nothing happens at all, screen remains the same. Thanks
Perhaps I jumped the gun or am doing something wrong. I just downloaded squeezeplay from the 7.4.1 site and installed it on my Windows Vista box. I started up my ssh client program, had it connect to my home server, and then started up the new squeezeplay. I went to the network remote server and saw a server with 127.0.0.1 as the ID already existed. If I pick it all I get is an option to remove it (that doesn't remove it). If I attempt to access any music I get the change library prompt and then the Try Again or Switch Libraries (which just tries again). If I try to add a new remote library (127.0.0.1, which I already had...) then it does nothing.
Ah, sorry, didn't fully read the use case (ssh tunnel)... The general non-ssh tunnel ip address entry has been fixed in 7.4. The ssh tunnel approach has not been looked at thoroughly. I'm marking this a duplicate of an earlier bug. I also marked it for discussion at our weekly bug meeting. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 8800 ***
