Description Don 2008-10-31 13:35:06 UTC
I have a SB Duet (love it!) and I am having a strange problem. On some of my albums the sort order for the tracks is not in track order. I am using my iTunes music library as the SC library. In both iTunes and SC the tracks appear in the correct order but on the controller they don't. It does not do it for all albums, only a few. I have narrowed it down to MP3 albums that I have purchased online from Amazom or downloaded elsewhere. Again it is not all purchased or downloaded albums, only a few. For example, the album 'Long Road Out of Eden' by The Eagles was purchased and downloaded from Amazon. Track order is correct in iTunes and SC but not on the controller. What is going wrong and how do I correct it?

I am running SC 7.2.1 and have the latest upgrades for the Duet receiver and controller. This problem existed under 7.2 also. Don't know about previous versions since 7.2 is the first I ran.

Don: you may want to check the TAGS of the files, make sure the tags are correct.
Comment 2 Don 2008-10-31 14:34:37 UTC
If it is the tags why is SC & the Duet controller treating the tags differently? I expect SC and the controller to show the tracks in the same order. If there is a problem with the tags why is not showing up in SC? There should be some consistancy between the two.

Using the Controller, are you browsing your music via
Music Library; Album / Artist / play lists ....
or
  Music Library > Music Folder

Under; Settings > Basic Settings - what do you have listed in Music Folder?

Comment 4 James Richardson 2008-11-03 15:03:31 UTC
On your controller, look at Settings > Advanced > Album Sort Method: how is that set?
Comment 5 Don 2008-11-04 13:21:42 UTC
If I browse

Mucic Library > Albums/ Album / Playlist - it is incorrect
Music Library > Artist / Album - it is correct

When I look at Settings > Advanced > Albums Sort Method - it is set for Album

Under; Settings > Basic Settings - the music floder is blank.

Don: is this only happening on Mufti Disc sets?
Comment 7 Don 2008-11-04 14:07:21 UTC
No it's not just multidisc sets. It is only on some purchased music. It's very strange. It appears in iTunes and SC correctly. It's only on the controller, only some purchased MP3 music, and only under Mucic Library > Albums/ Album / Playlist that it is wrong. Weird.

Ben: care to comment on this one?
Comment 9 Ben Klaas 2008-11-04 14:34:15 UTC
IMO, it's has to be a tag issue--something weird like it has both ID3v1 and ID3v3 tags, or it has multiple fields that show track number, and the wrong tag is winning out.

Agreed though, it's very weird. I've never seen the issue, so it may be helpful to upload one of the offending files as an attachment to this bug.

Tracks in wrong order on controller
Comment 11 Don 2008-11-04 15:01:58 UTC
I'll attach the alubm Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. On my controller the tracks show up in the following order.

4. Just Friends
6. Love Is A Losing Game
5. Back To Black
2. You Know I'm No Good
3. Me And Mr Jones
1. Rehab
7. Tears Dry On Their Own
8. Wake Up Alone
10. He Can Only Hold Her
9. Some Unholy War

The order on iTunes and SC is

1. Rehab
2. You Know I'm No Good
3. Me And Mr Jones
4. Just Friends
5. Back To Black
6. Love Is A Losing Game
7. Tears Dry On Their Own
8. Wake Up Alone
9. Some Unholy War
10. He Can Only Hold Her

Verified not an issue with SC 7.3-23820 Controller r3253
Comment 13 Don 2008-11-05 08:33:42 UTC
James,

My controller is running 7.2 r3191. Is it a bug in this version?

Comment 14 Ben Klaas 2008-11-05 08:47:09 UTC
James, I'm really doubting whether 7.3 will have any affect on Don's issue because there has been nothing done to actually fix this issue. Have you reproduced the issue in 7.2? My guess is that you won't be able to, which means there is something particular about Don's setup that's causing this odd behavior.
Comment 15 James Richardson 2008-11-05 09:10:07 UTC
My 7.2.x VM crashed, so I haven't repo'ed it yet on that, but will in a little while

Don: what version of iTunes are you running?

Ben, do you think a clear-rescan would change the behavior?
Comment 16 Don 2008-11-05 09:25:02 UTC
I am running iTunes version 8.0.1.11

I have a full clear rescan performed every day.
Comment 17 James Richardson 2008-11-05 09:35:09 UTC
Verified 7.2.1 r3191 not a problem for me on Windows / Mac.

Testing Ubuntu next
Comment 18 James Richardson 2008-11-05 10:27:00 UTC
Don: i have not been able to find a version of iTunes that runs on Ubuntu systems. which OS are you running?
Comment 19 Don 2008-11-05 14:25:19 UTC
I am running Windows XP SP2 with all patches installed (except sp3).
Comment 20 James Richardson 2008-11-05 15:56:45 UTC
OK, tested with Windows XP SP2 with all patches installed (except sp3), still unable to reproduce the issue.

Ben, any other suggestions?
Comment 21 Don 2008-11-05 21:24:46 UTC
Did you find anything wrong with the tags?
Comment 22 James Richardson 2008-11-10 09:03:10 UTC
Don, the only thing I saw that was strange, was that the tags were missing Track ID numbers
Comment 23 James Richardson 2008-11-10 10:13:52 UTC
Don: the only issue I see with the tracks, is that the Track ID is missing.
Comment 24 Don 2008-11-10 12:10:23 UTC
I upgraded the firmware on my QNAP TS-509 over the weekend, where SC is running, and the track list is now correct. As part of the firmware upgrade MySQL was upgraded from version 5.0.51 to 5.0.67. I know there was a sort issue with 5.0.51 that affected the sort order when viewing artists but I never read anything about there being a problem with track sort orders. Still strange that the problem was only with some mp3 downloads and only on the controller.

Anyway, thanks to all for you support. It's great to see the wonderful support you provide. Keep up the great work!

Thanks
Don

Don, glad to hear this is working better for you now.
