Description Harry ten Berge 2008-10-26 01:48:12 UTC
As can be seen on the SlimDevices forums and on the Synology forums the're many people out there that are running SqueezeCenter on a Synology Diskstation NAS.

Until recently this could be done with an Open Source project, but with the latest firmware from Synology came official packaging support.

Now Synology has released (in their beta program) a package with SqueezeCenter to provide a 'proof of concept'. This package delivers SqueezeCenter 7.2. It works perfectly on my Synology DS209+.

So the feature wish is this:

Provide an official package for Synology Diskstation's NAS series.

If they're already doing it, what's there left to do for us?

Well, you can do it better :-)

No seriously, Synology has created a package with 7.2 as part of their beta program, but I don't get the idea that this is a service they gonna provide by themselves. It is merely a proof of concept.

Now, as a (very happy) user of Squeezecenter the download site of slimdevices is the place where I can find stuff.

here is the link to the package from Synology:

If you want to have a look: it's just a tar file.

Matt Wise, your thoughts?

I havn't had much of a chance to look at it ... but honestly right now I don't think we can support another package. Our build system is already expanding rapidly to accommodate SqueezePlay builds, in addition to all of our SC and Firmware builds.

I'd much rather see the Synology guys come to us if they have any questions, but otherwise package the software up themselves... thats the model we're working towards -- our partners managing the packages for their own platforms.

Thank you Mr. Wise.
