Description Julius Dauz 2008-10-21 14:50:57 UTC
Here is a description of what the customer would like to see:

I want to be able to browse the library in a way that allows me, when viewing an Artist, to see not only discs released under that Artist's name, but, also, any discs/tracks on which that artist may've performed but were released under a different artist's name.

Here is what the customer has tried:

Just by way of example, I have a disc entitled "4 Generations of Miles." I entered a band tag of "4 Generations of Miles," and then an artist tag that included the names of each musician who perfoms on the disc. Thus, the artist tag reads: Ron Carter;Jimmy Cobb;George Coleman;Mike Stern. In Settings, under the Music Library tab, I checked the box so that Band/Orchestra is displayed in Artists.

That worked to the extent that, when browsing by Artists, the disc shows up under 4 Generations of Miles, as well as under each of the 4 individual artists. A problem arose when it came to the Now Playing display information.

Under settings, I changed the interface (and player settings) to display: TRACKNUM. TITLE from ALBUM by BAND. That works for the web interface and player display (in other words, the interface and player display, Track number. Track name from 4 Generations of Miles by 4 Generations of Miles).

But, unfortunately, the Controller doesn't display the same info; i.e., the Controller doesn't show band info. On the Controller, I see the name of the track, name of the album, and then, rather than band, the name of the 1st artist in the multi-item artist tag.

I suppose I could get around that issue by simply adding another item to the artist tag; namely, whatever value I've placed in the band tag would become the 1st item in the artist tag.

A couple of questions regarding suggestions on how to address this enhancement request:

So, is there a way that the Controller can read the band tag rather than the artist tag? Alternatively (and we discussed this, too), is there a way that all this could be accomplished via AlbumArtist tags rather than band tags?

More input from the customer:

Here's what I propose. With regard to the browser and player displays, the "interface" tab in settings allows a user to customize the "title format" for the web
interface (as well as the player display). At this point, it appears that albumartist is not an available data element (while artist and band are). Why can't albumartist be made available? As for the controller, there seems to be no way (at least that I can find) for a user to customize the meta data tags that the controller reads. So, at this point, I can't make the controller display albumartist rather than artist when viewing "Now Playing" information. Can the controller be configured
so that the user can pick and choose exactly which tags will be displayed? Come to think of it, why can't the controller have customizable "interface" settings similar to the web interface and player displays? In fact, to take it a step further, why can't a user have pretty much complete control over the customization of all 3 displays - the Controller, web interface, and player? In that way, the user could pick and choose which tags to display or ignore and also the order in which those
     tags should be displayed.

Retargeting to 8.0 after that target is created....

Moving to the product SqueezePlay because this bug appears to apply to any player based on that application code. Feel free to move it back if it's specific to the single original product.
