Bugzilla – Bug 9668
power on resume doesn't always do what it says
Last modified: 2008-10-26 12:19:41 UTC
(Originally reported on the forum: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=346460#post346460) I have noticed a problem with power-on-resume which is somewhat annoying. If I set power-on-resume to either "Stop at power off / Remain stopped at power on" or "Pause at power off / Remain paused at power on" the system will sometimes start to play music when I turn it back on, which is contrary to the setting. What appears to be happening is that the "pause at power off" or "stop at power off" are toggle commands, so if music is playing when I turn off the power the commands will stop/pause as expected and the player will remain in that state on power on. All good. However, if music is *not* playing (i.e. the system is paused or stopped) when I turn the power off, the "stop/pause at power off" command will toggle the playing state to playing before the power is turned off. Then when power is turned back on playback will be resumed. Which is not what I wanted. The reason that I particularly care is that it causes my server to spin up the music library disks in order to start playing as I turn the system off, which is very wasteful and can cause a delay in power off.
I am unable to reproduce the issue as described with 7.2.1 (nightly) Please retest with that version.
I have now installed 7.2 and it does seem somewhat better. Here is my test case: 1. Start an album playing. 2. Leave it to finish and the player to go back to idle. 3. Wait for the os/x server to spin down the music library disk. 4. Press power off on the sb3 remote. At this point in 7.0.1 the sb3 status display would flip from "stopped" to "now playing" and the disks would spin up (implying that it really was starting playback) and then the power would go off. With 7.2 I am seeing this: the sb3 status display will flip from "stopped" to "now playing" but I have not observed the disks to spin up, so I assume this is just a status update and not a real start of playback. Then the power turns off. So it definitely seems better in 7.2, though it is somewhat odd that the status goes to "now playing" when turning off. That's a minor detail though.
I've just had a recurrence of the of the original problem - with the server's disks powered down and the SB3 idle, I pressed OFF as I wanted to do something else and the SB3 screen switched to Now Playing and started to play - and did *not* power off at all. A second press of OFF did cause the player to turn off.
Doh - I discovered that my universal remote was sending a play command before the power off, so this is not a bug. Sorry.
