Bugzilla – Bug 9644
WOL packet not sent from SBC if Duet setup in bridged mode
Last modified: 2008-12-15 14:34:29 UTC
The full description of the problem, steps to reproduce and tcpdump traces are in the following forum thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=346410 To summerize: an SB wired to a computer wakes it from remote. A Duet in bridged mode does not, because THE RECEIVER DOES NOT SEND WOL PACKETS AT ALL. Just make the Duet in bridged mode behave like an SB2. I really insist this is a real deal breaker. Do not mark this bug as "SOLVED" without a description of how to get WOL working in bridged mode.
I already explained in the forum thread that WOL in bridged mode does _not_ work (as of 7.2) when issued from SBC simply because it has _not_ been implemented. I just retested WOL in bridged mode issued from SBR and it worked fine. Not sure why it went wrong when you tried it though. Here is what I did. Factory reset SBC and SBR and setup in bridged mode, connected to a Apple iBook running SC 7.2. I then put the Mac into sleep mode and waited for the SBR's led to be blue. Pressing (short) the blue button on SBR did wake up my Mac as it should. Some facts: - SBR only issues a WOL packet when the button is pressed while the led is blue. - SBR only issues a WOL packet if it was as least connected once to the PC/Mac running SC (needed so SBR can learn the mac address of the PC/Mac running SC). P.S. May I kindly ask you not to preset priority, severity and target milestone when opening a bug, thanks.
Felix to investigate the fix.
Not sure why this bug was closed a won't fix.
Some additional magic needs to be implemented on SBR to support WOL from SBC when Duet is setup in bridged mode.
Additional 'magic' in firmware added in rev 5079, will be in SBR fw 52. And here is how I tested it with my Mac running SC. - Setup SBC and SBR in bridged mode and connected to SC - Put Mac running SC to sleep - Wait until the wireless icon on SBC turns blue - Now select 'Turn <player> on' on SBC - Mac wakes up
QA to verify during Firmware Validation cycle
