I'm keen on messing around with this in the near future...I'll start messing around with this with some dummy images to start with, but the sooner I can get these the better--I think it's a great idea.

Noah, I'm confused on your recent attachments...are these to replace what I already received from you for player icons? Attached is a screenshot of what I'm currently using in Squeezeplay.
Comment 10 Blackketter Dean 2008-11-17 07:43:14 UTC
We should have one consistent set of icons used everywhere to indicate player models (and software types). Given the new style, it seems that controller, SLIMP3, MP3 Streams, SqueezePlay Desktop and SoftSqueeze are missing.

Hi Ben,

Sorry for the confusion. There was some feedback about the lack of contrast and orientation of the player icons based on photography [which i agree was poor]. I took another look at these creating the artwork from vector. At smaller sizes the new proposals should read better.

Again, perhaps we should use the photography for 7.3 with the intention of replacing them ASAP.

Can someone explain, "mp3 streaming client?" In what scenario is this used?
Comment 12 Ben Klaas 2008-11-17 10:19:41 UTC
Dean, what's your opinion on *when* to get this new artwork in? 7.3? 7.3.1? later?

Noah, mp3 streaming client is a feature of squeezecenter that allows people to point a software media player (e.g., winamp) to the URL of the Squeezecenter plus /stream.mp3. Squeezecenter then registers this as a "player", and allows the user to use the WebUI to select and play music across this stream.

From the side of the 3rd party software player, think of it like turning Squeezecenter into a tunable internet radio station.

We have an icon for internet radio streams that we use in jive that just shows a box with "http://" in it. IMO, that's the right direction to go with it...

Two options here:

1. Adjust the contrast of the current photographic icons to make the devices less of black blobs.
2. Complete the new set of illustrated icons.

I think that at this point the #1 is probably the easier/fastest choice.

Do we have artwork for the full set as above?

And I agree with Ben's idea that we reuse the http:// icon that we already have for streaming MP3 clients.

Artwork player icon set

The attached zipped folder is a full set of all the player icons for 7.3. All the images have been modified for max. contrast and orientations modified to face right.

thanks Noah-- one question for you...

for past iterations of this, I've taken the 512x512 icons and resized them to the correct resolution for the respective skin (e.g., 56x56 for the controller skin, 125x125 for the "fullscreen" skin, etc.). I use the command-line 'convert' utility, part of the ImageMagick suite, to do this.

Richard says that's probably a faulty way of producing lower-res images. If you agree with that, can you provide some icons in lower resolution? I'd need 56x56, 75x75 and 125x125.

this should be complete with r3425. added extra logic to deal with identifying player models for those that are still needing setup.

Noah, can you comment on my last question re: icon resizing?
