Description Mickey Gee 2008-09-23 10:21:58 UTC
When connected to SqueezeNetwork, when the preset buttons on Boom are pressed the display on the Boom screen should correspond to what's playing. Observations have been made that it's not always the case.

Mickey: I am unable to reproduce this issue using test.sn content. I tested with and without screen savers.

Try this:
Set menu to display and scroll to random item.
Push preset for a different preset.
Wait until "now playing" appears showing the selected choice
Press back button - display now shows the previously (non-selected) favorite, not the currently playing item.

I can't reproduce this on test.squeezenetwork.com, Robert can you please try again?
Comment 4 rdf 2008-11-21 06:57:35 UTC
The effect is intermittent, sometimes the display changes immediately when a button is pushed, sometimes it doesn't.

In addition there is a new wrinkle. When I attempt to reprogram a button it adds the current channel to the favorites list even though it is already there and then doesn't actually change the selection on the button.

Sometimes deleting this duplicate favorite and holding in the button again works, but I can't figure out exactly what the sequence is that works.

When I use a remote I can select 10 favorites even though the boom only has six buttons. I have no idea how these are assigned, or how one would go about changing 7-10.

It would seem useful to have a screen on the squeeze network page (I don't use squeeze center) that allows one to set and/or see what is assigned to each button and the hidden ones as well.

In general the buttons are proving to be less useful that they might be, this is unfortunate since there could be very worthwhile for bedside use.

So are you still able to see this with test.squeezenetwork.com ?

I don't understand. Adding the currently playing item to the favorites list is what holding the preset button should do.

Boom remote doesn't have numbers, are you using a remote for another player? All players support 10 favorites, they have for a long time.

If you go to SqueezeNetwork.com you can edit your favorites. Editing preset assignments to favorites would require a separate enhancement request bug.

I don't know how to connect to test.squeezenetwork.com. The boom seems to do what it wants. I can point my browser at this, but then what?

According to the instruction book, programming a button is supposed to add the item to the favorites only if it is not already there. It seems to add it in every case. Perhaps the instructions are just wrong.

I managed to get my programmable remote to match one of the other slim remotes which had numbers. The remote that comes with the boom doesn't seem very useful.

I understand how to edit the favorites on squeezenetwork, if you think others might be interested in my suggestion for a preset number feature I can start another enhancement request.

I think until the release of the boom most users were more technically inclined and wanted to use the squeezecenter feature. Perhaps the support group is used to dealing with people with this level of expertise, but you need to adapt to those who don't wish to become as involved in the details. I have the technical background, but not the interest. I'm just trying to use the boom as a radio with a minimum of fuss.

To connect to test.squeezenetwork.com go through Boom setup and instead of choosing Squeeze Network, choose "Enter IP address for SqueezeCenter" and connect to 67.155.108.15.

You're simulating our older remote, which is larger and contains the 10 digits. This is handy for entering text and numbers, but makes the remote much larger.

This is the first I've heard this mentioned. You're welcome to file the request if you'd like. :-)

> I'm just trying to use the boom as a radio with a minimum of fuss.

I understand if you're not interested in testing. You don't need to bother with connecting to test SqueezeNetwork if you would rather not. I've tested it and I believe this is not a problem any more, and in early December this will be rolled out to production Squeeze Network. The only reason I asked you to test against test.sn is because you're involved on this bug. :-)

Thank you Robert.
