Description Michael Valera 2008-09-22 12:47:46 UTC
People on the forum are confused by the front panel Back button now playing shortcut.

If you are several levels deep into a menu, holding down the bac kbutton for around one second will take you to Now Playing.

However is you are only one level in from Home, it will just take you back to Home and will not go to Now Playing.

This has led to confusion with our users over when, where, and how the shortcut works. Holding the Back button down for one second should take you to the Now Playing screen regardless of where you currently are in the menu tree.

I can reproduce this as described by Mike. Note left arrow from remote acts identical to front panel back button.
Comment 2 Chris Owens 2008-09-29 09:38:54 UTC
Andy notes this is difficult due to the way the underlying code works. cc'ing Triode, who I think implemented it originally for his comments.

At present you get taken back to the home menu in both cases. The difference is that press and hold left from deaper in the menus takes you to the "Now Playing" entry on the home menu, where as from one level deap its just back to the home menu.

We could drop the bit which forces it to go to the Now Playing entry and just go back to the home menu. Would this help?

Dean: do you have any ideas on how to address this?
Comment 5 Blackketter Dean 2008-11-01 16:52:59 UTC
The shortcut jumping back to the home menu by press and hold LEFT should be consistent between the remote and front panel controls. I do not think that it should scroll you at all.

Can you look at this, Triode?

The shortcut that's missing is the one that lets you use the LEFT button to go to the Now Playing screen. Let's address that separately.

Scrolling to the "NOW_PLAYING" entry removed in change 23781.

Note the front panel and remote do the same thing.

The other issue of press and hold left in the home menu will require a change to the IR code as if we just remove the mapping for arrow_left.hold in home menu, press and hold from deaper in the menus takes you to now playing straight away.

Verified that holding back from 2nd menu goes back to 1st (home) menu. Deeper than 2nd menu holding back goes to now playing. 7.3 - 23789, from remote and front panel. This makes sense, but I can't help but think it would be nice if there was a way to _always_ go to now playing.
Comment 8 Adrian Smith 2008-11-04 11:39:58 UTC
Ros - the change is to make it so that it does not always go to now playing. The reason for this is that we can't make go back a level do this without impacting all other menus.

So now:

- going back from 1 level down returns to the home menu to the entry corresponding to the menu you were in
- press and hold from deaper down takes you back to the home menu to the entry corresponding to the level you were browsing through

Neither of these means it goes to the "now playing" entry in the home menu unless you were browsing within now playing.

If this is not what Dean wanted then let me know, but I wanted to clarify as its not what you wrote..

Andy and I discussed this yonks back. At the time, I think we agreed that holding back should take you back to the top menu but also place you at the Now Playing entry in the top menu. This means that getting to Now Playing from anywhere would be a two step process - hold back then go right. It makes it fairly simple to get to Now Playing if you want to and also makes it very obvious what's going on.
Comment 10 Adrian Smith 2008-11-11 13:13:56 UTC
I consider this fixed - well I've implemented my interpretation of Dean's comment. Max's view does not align to this.

Dean - do you agree that change 23781 should stand?
Comment 11 Blackketter Dean 2008-11-12 17:33:52 UTC
I'm going to say that we shouldn't reset the scroll position and leave it as is.
Comment 12 Adrian Smith 2008-11-13 11:39:35 UTC
Marking as fixed as it implements Dean's requirements...
Comment 13 Ross Levine 2008-11-19 17:38:01 UTC
Comment #7, verified, 7.3 - 23961.
